So I've finished my first GC, my only game so far. Must have spent about 50 hours on it now. Went pretty OK considering I was a complete newbie when I started. There are still bits I don't understand fully, like politics, and other bits I didn't get (or take
o ) the chance to try, like colonialism.
Played on Very Hard, Coward, with Sweden. I set out to produce a lot of steel, but soon realized that the real money was in heavier goods, so once I started producing steamers the money started pouring in. I haven't been in too many wars, just a small skirmish with Prussia, trying to help Denmark, which ended in a small disaster but turned into a white peace after all. I waged a Great War on Russia together with Prussia and Austria in 1911-12, and got most of Finland in the peace (due to a cock-up in negociations I missed Kotka
o ), and released them as satellites. Europe has been fairly peaceful, apart from Prussia being gang-raped by France and Austria in the early 60's (hence no Germany), probably because of my settings. I will use more aggressive settings in the future.
If it hadn't been for an event that destroyed a level 10 steel factory in 1912, I would have won the game. That event brought me down from 3rd place to 7th, and I've struggled to get back up by increasing my industry for the last 8 years. Didn't quite make it... beat the UK though.
Would have done an AAR, but I'm too lazy. This will have to do.
So here is the End-of-Scenario screenie:
Now I will sleep on what nation to take on next.
Edit: changed location of screenie.
