Looks good, if you want to take your research and income to another level try trading, that infame around 20 equals about 40% less compete chance. You could try to stay below about 7 infame, expanding through get-a-core missions, diploannexing, core events and go free trade slider to be able to have 5 merchants in many CoTs. Trading is also like a game in the game.

Ironically that's one area I 'think' I'm doing ok. I have at least 3 ( might be 4 ) monopolies and a 5th at 5 at the moment.

USA - am I right in thinking I can colonise at my own pace now as it's unlikely people will colonise from the west?

If some coutries colonise SA, than yes, they can colonise it from the west due to the increased colonial range. Such situaion in my game, I colonised middle US and Alaska along with Canada in the west, while Castile colonised in the same time California, because they had colonies in Argentina.

They would need cores for the prolonged colonial range, meaning you can stop them by taking their colonies during war, using spies if there are natives present and such. Might also just have been that they had colonised the Islands between Europe and the Americas.

OK I HATE THE HORDE!!!!!

Goodness they are a pain in the butt!!!

Bumped into them by mistake as I completed my taking of the bulk of India and managed to squish the Timerouds but the fact you need to be at war.. to gain any land was a bit of a problem..

Got a couple of provences.. then peaced ( out of boredom ) only to get attacked by a different horde.. peaced them as the tim's attacked again.. at which point I was getting SWAMPED in rebellions....

My war exhaustion had gone up to 20% in no time ( it rarely goes higher than 0.00!!! ) so peaced out of the war as quick as damned possible and starting getting the exhaustion down...

It's coming down and the rebellions are reducing...

But still worried about the horde as they seem to be something that once you've made contact you have to spend a LOT of time with them.

Still got both my PU's, I've annexed France ( first time ever in a game - did it for that reason rather than any other - only cost 4bb as the other Provence was cored ), got the bulk of India ( and avoided going north east ), US is slowly growing and have a few colonies between US and India to help give me alternative routes for re-enforcements or troup movements etc.

But tips on smashing the horde would be appreciated!!! We're now late 1500's.

You should easily out-tech their armies and destroy them in battle. When they have no real armies left carpet siege the entire nation simultaneously and then begins the very slow process of colonising province by province. Whilst you have a border with them war is unavoidable so to stop war you have to get rid of them entirely or set up a buffer state

regarding the buffer state, in 5.2 once you release a vassal to remove the shared border, you have to cancel the vassalisation to stop the horde attacking you-if you agree to pay tribute the hordes will usually leave you at peace, but you have to declare a no CB war to stop paying them-hordes have a lot of poor provinces, so complete annexation is only advisable when youre doing a WC.

This thread is turning into a guided AAR :)

Initially tried to sort a buffer.. but given I wanted to keep a COT I decided sod it and the hemaro... I mean timerouds are going down!!!

I am doing a fair bit of rebellion fire fighting at the moment as I gained both spain and naples with my last leader change, so that took some resources ( but added 50% more to my max troup figure :)).

My bad boy fell to zero so when I got insulted by one of the remaining provences on modern day France I gave them and their allies a good hiding.

Burgundy is still there ( and now has escaped from it's PU) but currently seems content to just sit there two other provences remain, one friends with Burgundy, the other is Foix who has been my Vassal for god knows how long.. and still can't see the wisdom of joining me properly!!!

It's early 1600's and not sure entirely where to go next. When the rebellions have died down I'm wondering whether I should give Burgundy a thrashing, quite fancy attacking Japan ( but seems unattackable?), finish colonsiing north america of course.

Going to finish this game, if for no other reason as I'm yet to finish one!!! but open to suggestions of paths to take.

Thanks :)

If you and/or your Junior are non-HRE and have different cultures, a wise choice is to release them as one or more vassals upon inheritance.

Short version from me:

I think your are just "overextending" yourself. I mean, relax. You say its only 1533 and yet, you own entire Britain, alot of France, the ENTIRE west coast of the Americas and some parts of India.. Unless you are truly going for WC and are a senior player, I recommend taking it "slower".

France is too weak in the early years.
it's been nerfed down so much so every new player can have the 'archievement' of beating it... it's like a safrari with drugged prey.

anyway, you've pretty much beaten the game, watch out for your naval forces they will secure your power. try to get some rich Centers of trade in asia and around the world. make it your goal to controll the trade on nearly every corner of this planet.

watch your enemies grow stronger, the stronger they get the more fun this game will be, don't crush them in the first 10 years.

To be honest I'm not sure 'what' my aim is :/

Just playing and then getting frustrated when something kicks my butt or gets annoying... Apart from Austria seem to be on top of most things now though.
