Ok Tachi..i belive you :D here goes:
You played Barbarossa, how did the new land combat system work, Germany has to rely on its panzer in the beginning to get any gains, does this work ok, do they penetrate or is it just border clashes where you win one province lose one province and no gains a really made?

Well, speed is the key, but break through too far and you'll be surrounded like nothing. This, the AI is very good at. Motorized infantry is a gift from God btw. ;)

The AI is it good ? i guess the new combat system makes it easier for the AI when defending, but how is it on the offense?

I have only seen the AI on the offensive (so far) playing the Winter War, but then it was ok, not great, but good. I mean, if you just have a stable, well-balanced force and a manageable frontline, the enemy will have a very hard time breaking through, but I think that is reasonable. I do have a couple of premonitions that it will be a great pain in the ass when it comes to invasions though. The naval AI is not to be trifled with... ;)

Air, do you feel AIR does enough damage at all? in the battle scenario it hardly hurt troops just aircraft to aircraft. (granted it was bad weather but anyway)

Air is very nice for reducing org, and several groups of 3 tac bombers and one fighter flying around the front, doing damage here and there will generally bring the enemy's org down quite nicely and makes a difference (see below).

army to army clashes? do you feel that troops do to little strength damage against each other (the demo was this way)

This was in fact one of the first things I noticed in Barbarossa. Units lost strength very slowly and it took at least an encirclement to do some serious damage. Units lose org instead of strength it feels like, and that is great in a way because it felt very unrealistic in HoI1 when your divisions could lose like 60% in a battle under normal conditions. Losses that high were very unusual on a divisional level. So, on the bright side it takes a lot for your units to disappear, but the enemy usually sticks around a whole lot longer too.

HQ´s? hassle or fun?

Well, they are quite useful since they can give very nice bonuses, but one does get frustrated at their low speed values since it really holds back spearhead offensives if the odds are even (you can really need that ESE bonus sometimes).

Ok this are the most important issues for me, if you can give answers to this i would really appreciate it.

Thanks (a beliver :D )

Np. :p

Does the Royal navy defend its homeland from a German invasion. It was piss easy to invade England in HOI.

Well, I haven't tried to pull Sealion yet (since I have yet to invade France) but the naval AI is (like said above) not to be messed around with. No more sneak attacks into Scotland while the RN sits on its ass in the Channel, that's something I can almost promise you. However, gain air superiority and build a lot of naval bombers and I think you've got a fair chance of at least clearing the path. ;)

Just looking at the division files on the demo, there are not that I could see. They did have naval units so they shouldn't have been omitted if they exist. :(

Thanks for your effort :)

However, my wish was directed to Tachikaze, since he claims to have obtained a full version from Paradox.

I have the demo myself, and when I look at the Tech Overview I can't see Landing Ships, just Transports.

Posts screenshots if you can (preferably dozens, but I'd settle for a couple). That way we can ogle the glory that is HoI2.

Also, do you know if capturing capitals still gives you their resource stockpiles? I build a lot of panzers, and they go through gas like there's no tomorrow.

Ok guys, I went to bed around 4:00 AM... today I guess that is, trying to get as much info as I could (plus I couldn't stop playing the darned game ;)). Well, here's what has happened so far:

After a short period of preparations I unleashed my troops on a very weak Maginot Line on November 4th, with 46 of my divisions (of which 15 were Panzer III's) assaulting the mere 3 divisions defending Strasbourg, the French could only hold out for about 6 hours. Having broken their line (without having to go through the Benelux!) I quickly divided my Panzer units into 5 units of 3 divisions each and spread westward toward Paris and the Channel coast. While my infantry surrounded and cut off the ~16 French divisions occupying the rest of the Maginot, my Panzers took Paris and the northern part of France without much difficulty. After I had conquered almost the entire coast and while my troops were preparing to annihalate the French still occupying the Maginot, the French succumbed and offered me Vichy on the 19th (IIRC). Now, I usually (in HoI1 that is) turn it down and take it all anyway, but now I would have to Garrison it all so I decided to accept. Well, mission accomplished, France was mine and the Allies had been kicked out of mainland Europe, now only Britain remains.

Directly after the French surrender was in effect, I moved all my tac. bomber units to airbases near the coast and (with escorts) had them patrolling the Channel for any British shipping and air activity. I had decided to try Seelöwe. In a very short war I also took Belgium and Luxembourg mostly for old times sake but I left the Netherlands alone since I had a few nice trades going on with them.

While I started construction of transports to allow the passage over the channel (and a lot of garrison units to cover the French coast), I moved my panzers and my strongest infantry units (with SP artillery brigades) to the Yugoslavian border. The Balkans would be next. After the troops had reached the border and were prepared, I ordered the attack on December ~10th and conquered the country without much difficulty (the difficult part will be the partisan activity which is very high in this area). Having created Croatia, I then moved on to take out Greece which was already at war with Italy. My DOW brought Greece into the Allies and Italy to war against them, after this little chain-reaction it wasn't hard to get them to join my alliance. Having taken out Greece, the next goal would be the British Isles.

With my bombers and brave fighters having cleared the Channel (more or less, as it would turn out) and my small but effective submarine fleet (more about that later) harassing the shipping lanes to and from the Isles, I deployed my transports in Cherbourg where my troops were standing by and moved the Kriegsmarine (consisting of 4 BB's, 5 CA's, 6 CL's and 7 DD's) to the Channel for extra cover and coastal bombardment. The landing fleet consisting of 15 Transport flotillas (sorry, no landing ships) was just about to move out when a fleet of 17 British ships and flotillas made contact with my brave Kriegsmarine. The British fleet consisted mostly of CL's and DD's but also a couple (3-4 IIRC) CA's, but was no match for my BB's who blasted them out of the waves without much effort. The British lost at least 2 of their CA's and 2 DD's, while I lost none and only took slight damage to one of my CL's. With the Royal Navy out of the way, the transport fleet quickly went to work. Transporting 9 Panzer III divisions and 6 Infantry divisions in the first run, it was a close call whether they would make it off the beaches at all, despite only facing one Inf division and no fortifications. The amphibious assault penalty is around 99% now, so you know, so that's something I think I should've researched (haven't done many naval doctrines), but too late for that now. I managed to aquire a beachhead and quickly used the element of surprise to expand it to cover the entire Channel coast. Moving across another 6 Panzer III divisions and 9 Inf divisions I stabilized the beachhead and surrounded London quickly and captured it with my infantry after some tough fought battles going back and forth for a while (urban battles are a nightmare).

So, that's where I am right now, I'm going to take the rest of the Isles and then I think I'll go for Norway while preparing for Barbarossa, and of course I think I'll send a division of two to help the Italians in Africa (even though their campaign in North Africa seems to be going fine right now).

Phew, now I think I must start playing again, all this writing about it just makes me want to play it more. :D Cya later! ;)

1) Can you tell us what damage you did to the RN with your Bombers. Perhaps RN was so weak because most of it lied beneath the surface

2) Seems really necessary to research Marines and techs for them.

3) Nooo, I want my Landing Ships! :( :D

Englands A.I Naval defence sounds just like HOI1,very weak.

I think he's playing the press beta, which I believe was put together some time in September. I'm willing to bet that version 1.01 will be significantly different.

Still and all, the poor showing of the AI in this mini-AAR is a bit worrisome.

Not to be discouraging, Tachikaze. I very much enjoy reading your feedback.

Nah...why would they give such an early beta to the press, when it´s gone gold?

I guess maybe they gave him the gold version *shrugs*. I just assumed he had the same version that the previews were all based on. I'm probably wrong, now that I think about it.

I´m thinking that perhaps naval bombardement is way too effective in the gold version, and hopefully they release a patch on the day of release to remedy this.
