Ok guys, I went to bed around 4:00 AM... today I guess that is, trying to get as much info as I could (plus I couldn't stop playing the darned game

). Well, here's what has happened so far:
After a short period of preparations I unleashed my troops on a very weak Maginot Line on November 4th, with 46 of my divisions (of which 15 were Panzer III's) assaulting the mere 3 divisions defending Strasbourg, the French could only hold out for about 6 hours. Having broken their line (without having to go through the Benelux!) I quickly divided my Panzer units into 5 units of 3 divisions each and spread westward toward Paris and the Channel coast. While my infantry surrounded and cut off the ~16 French divisions occupying the rest of the Maginot, my Panzers took Paris and the northern part of France without much difficulty. After I had conquered almost the entire coast and while my troops were preparing to annihalate the French still occupying the Maginot, the French succumbed and offered me Vichy on the 19th (IIRC). Now, I usually (in HoI1 that is) turn it down and take it all anyway, but now I would have to Garrison it all so I decided to accept. Well, mission accomplished, France was mine and the Allies had been kicked out of mainland Europe, now only Britain remains.
Directly after the French surrender was in effect, I moved all my tac. bomber units to airbases near the coast and (with escorts) had them patrolling the Channel for any British shipping and air activity. I had decided to try Seelöwe. In a very short war I also took Belgium and Luxembourg mostly for old times sake but I left the Netherlands alone since I had a few nice trades going on with them.
While I started construction of transports to allow the passage over the channel (and a lot of garrison units to cover the French coast), I moved my panzers and my strongest infantry units (with SP artillery brigades) to the Yugoslavian border. The Balkans would be next. After the troops had reached the border and were prepared, I ordered the attack on December ~10th and conquered the country without much difficulty (the difficult part will be the partisan activity which is
very high in this area). Having created Croatia, I then moved on to take out Greece which was already at war with Italy. My DOW brought Greece into the Allies and Italy to war against them, after this little chain-reaction it wasn't hard to get them to join my alliance. Having taken out Greece, the next goal would be the British Isles.
With my bombers and brave fighters having cleared the Channel (more or less, as it would turn out) and my small but effective submarine fleet (more about that later) harassing the shipping lanes to and from the Isles, I deployed my transports in Cherbourg where my troops were standing by and moved the Kriegsmarine (consisting of 4 BB's, 5 CA's, 6 CL's and 7 DD's) to the Channel for extra cover and coastal bombardment. The landing fleet consisting of 15 Transport flotillas (sorry, no landing ships) was just about to move out when a fleet of 17 British ships and flotillas made contact with my brave Kriegsmarine. The British fleet consisted mostly of CL's and DD's but also a couple (3-4 IIRC) CA's, but was no match for my BB's who blasted them out of the waves without much effort. The British lost at least 2 of their CA's and 2 DD's, while I lost none and only took slight damage to one of my CL's. With the Royal Navy out of the way, the transport fleet quickly went to work. Transporting 9 Panzer III divisions and 6 Infantry divisions in the first run, it was a close call whether they would make it off the beaches at all, despite only facing one Inf division and no fortifications. The amphibious assault penalty is around 99% now, so you know, so that's something I think I should've researched (haven't done many naval doctrines), but too late for that now. I managed to aquire a beachhead and quickly used the element of surprise to expand it to cover the entire Channel coast. Moving across another 6 Panzer III divisions and 9 Inf divisions I stabilized the beachhead and surrounded London quickly and captured it with my infantry after some tough fought battles going back and forth for a while (urban battles are a nightmare).
So, that's where I am right now, I'm going to take the rest of the Isles and then I think I'll go for Norway while preparing for Barbarossa, and of course I think I'll send a division of two to help the Italians in Africa (even though their campaign in North Africa seems to be going fine right now).
Phew, now I think I must start playing again, all this writing about it just makes me want to play it more.

Cya later!
