Finally got more than 100 years into game. Help please with religion

Hi, had a lot of good advice on this forum recently so trying again

I am playing as England have formed the United Kingdom, its about 1570 and I have managed to conquer half of France, unite whole of British Isles, take a little bit of Spain but now have them as a PU which will make them able to be mine in about 30 years, I've also taken a little bit of Flanders so I have conquered quite a lot. My force limit is largest in the game at just over 110k slightly ahead of Ottomans and obviously with all this expansion, a lot of the countries around me have formed a coalition so I'm frantically using my diplomats to appease them and get them back on side before wiping them out further

Protestantism has formed and I am obviously Catholic. What are the benefits etc of changing to this religion? In what set of circumstances would you change religion? It seems as the game goes on there are more options for things to take yet the game doesn't do a very good way of explaining it. I did notice a huge war though between Catholics and Protestants involving pretty much all of Europe (except me for some reason)

Any tips please?

You lose Papal points when switching to protestantism and gain church power in return.
Decide for yourself whether it's worth it or not. I won't start that discussion. Don't wanna end with dozens of corpses in this thread.

Regarding league wars, you have Art of War enabled. Clicking the "HRE" button in your lower right corner next to the minimap should open your league interface and let you join one side unless the war has already started.

And if you want less AE you can expand into Scandinavia or Africa instead of the HRE.
Won't get far in Germany without creating coalitions.

Regarding expanding into Scandinavia, how can I do this? As I cant fabricate claims on anything there. Just attack and take it?

You should be able to fabricate on Hebrides/Orkney/Faroes depending on how far you got. One of these should be owned by Norway. Take a province in Norway proper in the peacedeal, and expand in Scandinavia from there.

Doesn't Norway hold islands north to Scottish lands?

You can always Best CB (No CB) of course...

If you don't want to do that, can you sell the island back to Norway, then re-fab (you lose the core, right?) and take land in Scandinavia in the peace deal.

I might do that. Played about 30 years last night just sat quietly making everyone around me happy again. The coalition disbanded and everyone likes me again. I saved my game, ready to load up and go nuts tonight.

I think well everyone is still recovering, I'll go into Scandanavia with no CB and get one province only then start making claims everywhere and go nuts, by the time I've started that, France will be ripe for thie picking again, Spain will be integrated and then its time to face the Ottomans.

Oh, I forgot about the coalition. No CB probably isn't the best advice if there's a coalition formed, although it would've been fine as long as no one else joined or they didn't get big enough to declare. Seems like you've sorted it all out though.

As for what to do next, what's your goal for this run? Haven't played England, but you can easily have a big colonial and trade colony empire. Are going for any achievements?

Not really what you asked for, but a thing to consider- don't be in a hurry to integrate Spain. Spain is great colonizer and in long term you will get more bang for the buck if you allow them to colonize. in addition, you can feed them admin expensive Maghreb lands, if you have any ambition in there. At admin tech 27, you will max your administrative efficiency. Add whatever absolutism points and it will be super cheap to integrate Spain and gain all the colonies.

I also wouldn't rush to integrate Spain. It shouldn't be an issue to keep them loyal and they will likely be more useful to you as a PU for a while. Their soldiers still fight for you, they make colonies, you can siphon their money occasionally if you need to. If you integrate them, will you be able to make their land into states? It won't do much for you as territories. You'd also spend a lot of Dip to integrate. That cost can be drastically reduced with Admin and Influence ideas plus admin efficiency in the later game. In the meantime they will keep colonising, and you will get all those colonial nations when you do integrate.

Rushing to integrate without considering whether doing so would actually be beneficial is a very common new-player mistake.

That SHOULD BE the League war, you only join it if you Join one of the league, Catholics or protestants, but you have to do it yourself
Also, you didn't write anything about Colonies, you didn't take explo ideas or you just didn't mention those, because...well England is a nation that is supposed to go for that, like Spain/portgual/France....
