Really enjoying the game but really wish they'd fix a few issues.

-The jacobite rebel thing is ridiculous. When every GP in the world is constantly covered with them, something isn't working.

-Capitalists don't seem to be working as intended. Sometimes they work, but mostly I just look at a huge list of 0 funded projects. I've gone and modded most government types to be state capitalist as there's no hope otherwise.

-Huge money piles! With nothing to spend money on since the country runs its self, I end up gathering up ridiculous sums of money even playing a minor. Give us something to spend money on! Let those of us stuck with interventionist or worse parties at least have some option or event that lets us just give our money to capitalists as grants or something. It's so silly that the government can be sitting on hundreds of thousands of pounds while the country can't build a single factory since the capitalists have no money.

-A bit of re-working of spheres and puppets might be in order. It would be nice if you as the minor country had some influence. I'd like to be able to favour or resist certain GP's as they fight for me. And even when I'm in someone's sphere I'd like the option to declare war on them, let them back their sphere claims up with power. Sometimes I have a higher military score than my sphere leader and want to throw off their chains! If the AI can't handle it, make it a player only option.

Not very good :(

- Major powers are overpowered.
- Being in a sphere of influence renders you unable to do most things.
- No way to get a casus belli.
- Capitalist AI is very bad and ruins you.
- Those points make playing smaller nations no fun.
- Rebel zergs tore apart everyone.

That's stuff you'll notice after one day...

What I meant by this is that in vic 1 there always seemed something to do, pops to split budget to manage, armies to deploy capitalists to check on and a much more tangible pop militancy , whereas now with little or no militancy one can have your whole country over run.
In this new polished version at times it feels like too much though was put into the stunning graphics, but my largest problem the lack of events, in my japan game I have reached 1880 with only westernisation wind and the rising sun event for gp status. I always liked the events in vic and felt in many ways they were what seperTed the game from many other titles. I understand the moddability of the new vic but I feel that perhaps vanilla should have contained more events. I would also very much like a way to trade techs and provinces again, I really miss that and I feel it would be particular useful in multiplayer.

Sorry for the text block and thanks for a great game, I'm going on holiday now for 2 weeks so I hope by then we are on 1.3 and have all the rebel problems sorted out ;).
Thanks again

We did not sink that much time in stunning graphics, we have two artists we either use them or we don't. If they aren't doing art on Victoria 2 then they will be doing art on another project, they will not be programming. Victoria 1, was micormanagement hell and I say that as a fan of the game. I was going to make damn sure that Victoria 2 was not that. That you guided your nation not sat there like an accounting splitting and promoting POPs all game.

I don't like how Japan has a samurai sprite until 1900 with bolt-action rifles. I wish for a special event to fire when they civilise changing their units appearence. Invading China + Taiwan with huge navies... with samurai warriors, against Qing guns ... kind of kills it for me. Would be great if this could be changed. Thanks.

Impressions, great game so far. Everything that was promised is in and works as I thought it would. The only thing is that it looks like the economy some balancing. Thats not that much of a surprise though, considering hoe complex it is and how many interconnected variables are involved. But that is the only thing that bothers me at the moment.

I have to say this because I've made quite some criticism of the game elsewhere and I don't want it to look like I don't think it's great: Removing the micromanagement is the absolutely best thing you have done for Victoria. It's what makes the game playable for me in the first place... so I can complain about the macroeconomics.

it's a great game but i have so far been unable to enjoy about half of it because whenever i get to 1970-80 i stop being able to contain the rebels and after a while mopping them up simply gets too tedious.

In a way I feel like the pendulum has swing to the other extreme. I don't need to manage my pops directly, capitalists will take care of my factories and railroads. If not, I can build them with a click of a button and be done with that province for a couple of years.

Research feels like it takes a very long time. I spend large amounts of time staring at the date changing and doing little else.

I feel like I'm missing something. What sorts of things can I do to improve my country? I guess if you're a GP you have SoI and influence. I'm playing a secondary power trying to reach GP status and I feel like all I do is stare at pie charts.

My only sense of fun in the game really comes from watching the country mature from Point A to Point B. But there's a whole lot of nothing in between.

POPs are especially frustrating. In Vic 1 changing a POP was as easy as getting some goods stockpiled and changing them. I appreciate the increase in realism and difficulty in V2 by taking away the power to magically wave your hand and have 80,000 fresh soldiers at your command. I think people would benefit from some illumination into the finer workings of the system though. I see a lot of things on the POP promotions regarding needs, cash, slider settings that affect POP promotions. It seems like there are ways you can manipulate your country to move your POPs in a direction. From a new players perspective, it feels like your NF is all you can do but I have a gut feeling there is another level to it a lot of people are missing. Surely if I, as the country of Sardinia-Piedmont foresee a lot of fighting in my future there is something I can do to get some of my farmers into uniform?

In my last games I've had education spending high, administration spending high, military spending up. Desperately trying to get my POPs to embrace education, the military, or the bureaucracy. They very rarely seem to budge though and 20 years later I'm still at < 1% clergy in my states. I got one state up to 5 with my NF and once I moved it to get some clerks, in about 10 or 15 years the state was back down to 0. I'd like to know why that happens and what I can do to change it.

I'm fine with playing puppetmaster but I'd like to know which strings to pull. :)

The game has some potential, but needs a lot of fixes. I think many of us are very disappointed because the Beta-AARs read like this game was perfect and didn't mention the broken mechanics (Capitalists, World Market).

Only a few small, nitpicky issues are preventing me from calling V2 brilliant, but it's extremely close. A idea for the Devs while I'm here; allowing us to set National Focus points while in the factory production tab and the population tab. Sometimes you want to encourage clergy in your largest (by population) states or clerks and craftsmen where all your factories are and it'd be useful to be able to do directly without flicking between screens. Just a thought.

That you guided your nation not sat there like an accounting splitting and promoting POPs all game.
Honestly, I still feel like an accountant - tweaking tax sliders and expenditure in order to promote some priests... but not too much because then they'll join the aristocracy. So you lower one slider and raise the other, then mess around with your tariffs... and all while balancing the needs of the other POPs. I may just need time to get used to it but right now the budget system feels like as much hassle as manual promotion

I've enjoyed it so far. Won't know if it has the same, almost unique, replayability until VIP comes out ;) .

There are some things that needs to be fixed though. The economy and assimiliation are broken and needs major work. Rebels and a few other things needs tweaking.

As long as that is indeed being worked on I'm happy with my purchase.

Vic II is the first Paradox game to work out of the box since EU II.

The capitalist factory-building AI needs improvement. Also, for some reason factories often can't buy inputs even though the domestic stockpile and world market are flooded. These two problems combine to break LF, the economic model that defined the Victorian/Dickensian era.

However, as a previous poster pointed out, judicious modding can stop capitalists tearing down their own factories a week after they open, and give the player levers to make some decisions for the AI.

Overall, Victoria is polished and exceptionally detailed; perhaps just one patch away from flawless.

I like it. I do agree that fixes are needed. I am kind of leaning towards if you don't play as a great power you are kind of left in the dust. I also understand this to a point, because then say Oranje could take over Africa.. Please fix the cap problem with building and a few other smaller items and I would be quite happy :).

No offense intended to anyone at all, but it's pretty silly to try to come to a final verdict on Victoria 2 a few days after release, before any patches have come out, and when the game is this deep and complex.

It has some major issues (rebels) and is missing some things I want (Second Empire events in France), but none of that is fatal.

It's prettier than Vicky 1 and so far, almost as fun.
