Drachenfire posted a REALLY good idea in the "Marriage Game" thread. I want to repost it here for a discussion of its own:

Also, expanding on this, how about an option to somehow... track certain titles/regions/dynasties? I have to admit I tend to play very locally, and half that spam is just junk to me. I wish there was a way to following certain regions, titles, and families and have only them appear in my events log. Does this make sense?

This would be SOOOOOOOOO great!! Make it so that the game engine knows "where" a message about some war, peace, ruler death or marriage originates, and give the player a couple of checkboxes under "Message options" so he can filter it:

  • Inform me about events from countries that border on my lands
  • Inform me about events from my kingdom
  • Inform me about events from neighbouring kingdoms
  • Inform me about stuff happening at the court of / to foreign kings
  • Inform me about stuff happening at the court of / to foreign dukes
  • Inform me about stuff happening at the court of / to foreign counts

You could f.ex. choose to be informed only about events in your kingdom, as well as follow the gossip about kings elsewhere. But not the clutter about dukes, counts or barons elsewhere.

I mean, the map was already big in CK1, and the messages at the bottom of my screen were a piss poor way to stay informed about relevant events. There was really no way to suppress all the spam about faraway sheikhs and counts while still staying update about what happened to your own liege. :(

I would love to play a game of CK2, where I can remain "realistically" oblivious to events in faraway lands. Constantinople has fallen to the heathen? Sure, I want to know that! Random county in northern Sweden has fallen to the pagan Finns? Who cares.

I'd have to agree. In EU3 for instance, I didn't really care if (Playing say, Saxony) the Chinese annexed some place over in India. I did however care if I formed a personal union with someone, or if France conquered Burgundy.

I would literally spend 15 minutes on first play after re-install or expansion to set up my messages. This also goes for all the other Paradox games I've bought (It's quite a few as you can tell).

I do want to be able to tailor my message spam. I want my Chancellor to inform me of important issues to my court… like how the courts of neighboring realms feel about my court, how likely that realm will ally with me or enter into marriage or treaty pacts. How the Holy See or the Holy Roman Emperor feels about me.

I want to be able to target a court, and choose to “follow” it like I do in a tweet, and for my Chancellor to inform me of important events in that particular court. Likewise, I would like for a way to follow my favorite dynasties, even if I am not playing that dynasty.

So if I am playing as the Aberffraw dynasty of Wales, and I want to see how the Plantagent dynasty is doing and track its history, then I should be able to target the dynasty and chose an option to “follow” it, and a kind of narration for that dynasty is recorded somehow for me to review at my leisure.
