Surprised not a single one of you mentioned the two most excellent and iconic movies for EU IV's timeline. Which by the way far far more authentic films compared to all previous mentioned films in this thread, save for The Mission. The natural lighting alone makes it so immersive, no cheap studio lighting here.
Stanley Kubricks's Barry Lyndon (1975), starting in the 1750s ending and ending in 1789.
Ridleys Scott"s The Duellists (1977), set during the Napoleonic era and it's immediate aftermath (1800-1820).
As these movies are not hagiographies around a central historical figure, they are superior films when portraying the Eras their fictional characters are living in.
And they are actually directed by good filmakers.
Damn Ridely Scott really was more into historical accuracy in the 70s, cough Robin Hood cough.
