Hey guys.

Bought the game this morning and have gone through all the tutorials and "most" of the manual. However i'm a bit dissappointed, not by the game which is well polished, but rather by the fact that most things tend to worsen on their own no matter what is done (noticed the same thing in HOI so it's probably me)

I'm originally an EU3 player and in that game, it seems that, all parameters kept equals, your nation will slowly better over the years. (you won't WIN a game by waiting around but at least your budget will allow you not to go bankrupt and you can diplomacy around in peace)

Vicky II (and HOI III) are the polar opposite on that regard : If you don't do anything and thry to observe how things evolve, your nation will go from worse to dead, while your enemies will magically keep their head above water in worse situations.

EX : 2nd game, Playing as the USA. My budget goes from +112 in the first few days to -27... All my trade is automated and yet my factories say they need more cotton to produce cloth. That seems logical. What seems less logical is that i produce around 90 units, sell only 17 and my industries are still magically short although they need only 27... What happens to the 45 or so extra units ?

Following this willing non utilization of available ressources, factories go bankrupt even when i subsidize them, and large areas of the states suffer from a 100% unemployement.

Past my rant, my point is here : How are you to fight uneployement if you can't build new factories and if the ones you have are anyway failing to do anything ? :(

This is quite common, and is due to the economy balancing itself out right in the first few days.

That seems very odd. I know if it is not in high demand then the excess will just be wasted. Are you stockpiling any cotton (if it really is automated then it should be)?
Following this willing non utilization of available ressources, factories go bankrupt even when i subsidize them, and large areas of the states suffer from a 100% unemployement.
If they continue to be unprofitable even when subsidising for a long time then you should consider closing them. The only advantage they will haev is adding to your score.

However, this may lead to further unemployment...
Past my rant, my point is here : How are you to fight uneployement if you can't build new factories and if the ones you have are anyway failing to do anything ? :(
You'd be best to try and National Focus promotion to another POP type for those unemployed POPs.

thanks for the answer man !

But, is there no way to DIRECTLY fight clerk unemployement if i can't build factory ?

I understand that poor clerks will demote or "change class" (rpg ftw !) but won't that take a LONG time ? I have more than 8000 unemployed clerks in michigan alone. and another 2K or so all around the states

You could set a National Focus to encourage clerks, but this my just make the problem worse. It's better to allow them to demote until there is work, otherwise they'll get angry due to having no job and thus no money to buy their needs.

Yes, it can take a long time. Click on the POP icon and a display will pop-up showing demotion/promotion factors and what influences them (there will be tooltips).

If your capitalists in that state don't have money, they won't be able to buy everything the factory needs. So you might have a supply production in your country, but they won't be able to buy enough. If you subside it, it'll get money from the government to do that.

Thanks again for the answers people :) there is a second question : From what you said planck, and what i saw from the "Project Tab" it seems i have to ALLOCATE money to certain POP or projects, I don't really know how to do that (or if it's automatic, i dunno what are the conditions )

I guess i'll kepp on playing. This game really seems to be worth it. (What do you guys think of the military aspect ? i havent' declared a war yet)

Also, what's a good country to start with ? I'd say Belgium like in the tutorial.

I played as russia and I didnt enter war for 50 years. Got my budget and industry booming and was able to even decrease middle taxes to zilch. I also was a liberal governemnt meaning my taxes had a max of 50%. I even had enough money to start subsidizing products to continue my industrial growth. I noticed however that my industry was only booming on the west of russia. The east had nearly no infrastructure and no industry

Lol sounds about right for the east :p

I'm surprised that occupying a whole nation gives only around 20% of warscore... It's pretty amazing. Am I supposed to hold the country till the WE chokes them ? (My economy that does so well during a war goes -25€ quite quickly... Are international powers embargoing me to stop the war ? That seems something of a 20th century tactic...)

Also, ...hum i forgot. I'll post this before it times out and if i remember i'll edit.

Does any one know how to increase dramatically the number of craftsman, i have a lot of factories but most of the don´t have employees. I have put national set to increase craftsman in one of the regions but that isn't enough, any suggestions?
