What's the consensus here on whether to research/build Fighters or Interceptors? I'm relatively new to HoI2, but it seems to me that Fighters have almost everything going for them. They cost slightly more, but in every statistic except Air Defense they seem to be either superior or equal to Interceptors. I feel like there's some benefit to Interceptors that I'm not noticing that makes them worthwhile.

Fighters are good against everything. Interceptors are good against bombers because they get a bonus when attacking them. Stick to interceptors, they're all you need. A stack of 4 fighters isn't going to make that much of a difference.

I know everyone says go one or the other.... but I always go both. I use them for different missions though, interceptors for defending my air, and air interception from close range (Southern England from N. France) and I send my fighters on longer ranged missions, and don't even bother to build or research escort fighters.

I defenetly usually go with both as well, interceptors for short defence against strat and tac bombers and fighers for longrange hunting.
As USA I always build all three. Heck - ya run out of things to research by June in some years - even if researching a year in advance.
As for the escorts, I go by the philosophy that yes, four strats will do more damage than three and an escort, but three and an escort will do more damage than the four without one that are grounded until their stength regenerates.

As Germany I usually build all three, but in differing amounts. Interceptors are for the British and their bombers. They patrol my naval ports in north Germany, Denmark and Norway and the Dutch, Belgian and French coasts.

Fighters are for sweeping the skies clear during my offenses: Poland, the Balkans, North Africa, Russia, etc.

Escort fighters are built in very limited numbers, and attached to Naval Bomber squadrons.

Often, as Germany, my 4-odd Escort Fighters will remain the same throughout the war, only being up-graded from time to time. Usually, my need for more will be managed by the shifting of theaters. Taking Gibralter will seal up the Med and free up planes for the Indian Ocean, etc.

Conclusion: if you are a major power, you really need all three, but the numbers of each type will vary, and you can usually fit in the research slots for the equipment at some point as you go along. Doctrines for fighters are (for the most point) the same for all three, so you lose nothing there.

Tis true. I only build enough escorts as I plan bomber groups. Yet I'll often build twelve fighters and nine interceprots.

I don't build strategic bombers nor escort fighters as Germany.

Germany has plenty of TAC bombers to spare between the fall of France and the USSR war... And they also have a fine strategic bombardment level, so I just use those as strategic bombers, with fighter escorts.

I prefer fighters since they have ability to do some offensive air superiority and destroy enemy interceptors allowing my bombers to do their work.

If you play a minor nation: stick to interceptors and forget fighters

If playing a major power: research both interceptors and fighters (and escort fighters for your tac/nav). Build both, and use groups of 4 interceptors to shoot down enemy bombers over your own territory, and use groups of 4 fighters for offensive air superiority missions.

Fighters are also nice to use as escorts for CAS, since they add a bit of HA/SA. I usually use 2 tac + 2 esc, 2 nav + 2 esc, 2 CAS + 2 fighter. Though not the same punch per attack as unescorted or 3 + 1 escort, it means your planes will be flying missions many more days per year instead of sitting around waiting for org regain.

Interceptors are for defensive operations and fighters are for offensive operations.

it doesnot worth it to make interceptors, really.
fighters can do all the job and have some like 8 CAS.here you have a complete airforce
