Before the patch promoting a general (to a field marshal) changed the capacity of how many divisions they can manage from 24 to however many. Now it doesn't. Is there anyway I can make my generals command more than 24 divisions without getting a penalty ?

No. And in my opinion you shouldn't either. Field Marshal never directly controlled divisions to my knowledge. But generals. You can however assign divisions to allgroups of 24 and then add the groups to a field marshal and then change the view.

You can also increase the amount of divisions to 30 with trait.

In my opinion the cap should be at 12.

Practically not much changed. Now they can manage 5 field armies. I don't think I ever used that many troops under one field marshal, maybe on garrison duty, but generals who do that can command I think 3 times as many as normally. I welcome this change, now it is much easier to manage frontlines since I can give different orders to my generals.

A general in charge of a garrison army can handle 72, so the technical answer to your question is 'yes' although I know it's not what you're looking for. I agree with the second poster as far as principle goes.

For historical reasons and in principle I totally agree. However, until they fix division spam this will give you a lot more armies than IRL. To keep it manageable I'm willing to accept up to 24 divisions per army, I'll just pretend that half of them are support brigades of various types (actually, my standard infantry army has 16 infantry divisions, four artillery brigades and four heavy armoured brigades, so it's not far off).

Interesting concept about an "army" having support artillery "brigades" and heavy armored "brigades". I've flirted with the idea, but worry about how the AI would handle moving the front line units to the rear (ie reinforcements, though maybe now there is another reason for signal units). Are you fighting against the AI or have you tried this against other players?

Only AI.
And to avoid these brigades being too brittle I have infantry in them. My artillery brigade is 2 ART, 2 INF and 1 ENG. My heavy tank brigade is 2 HARM, 2 MECH, 1 HSPART, 1 HTD, 1 RECON and 1 SIGN.

It seems to be working, but I haven't really done the math of IC vs effiency. My main goal is historic role-play, so I'm afraid I'd lose badly in MP.

Mine as well, though I'm not quite sure about the "role-play" definition. Instead, I try and mod it so the game is "historical".
