Greetings. I'm currently working on a series of custom events for a ressurected Byzantine Empire -- mostly for my personal use -- and have hit a snag of sorts. My mini-mod is based on the EEP Post-Byzantine Events and is intended for use with the fantasy EEP GC. All considered this seemed like the place to visit looking for opinions and advice.
Here's my problem: As the title of the thread alludes to, I'm currently trying to write an event-chain by which the renewed Byzantine Dynasty could attempt to reclaim the old roman provinces in the Levant (Antioch, Damascus, Jerusalem) and Egypt. Giving the Roman Empire temporary CBs and possible shields on the territory doesn't pose a problem, but making the territory valuable to them does.
I'm hesitant to remove wrong-culture penalties by simply giving the Byzantines arabic culture. It would give them an open invitation to territories that they never ruled in history (Arabia maybe?) and also does not make loads of sense. Allowing the Byzantine Romans to assimilate the Turks is one thing, allowing them to absorb the Arabs is stretching it...
What I'm looking in to now, is what areas of Egypt and Palestine had strong non-arabic minorities. Is it plausible that some provinces in these areas could have their culture changed to something other than arabic? Or does 800 years of arab immigration make any ideas of repatriating the southern provinces of the empire complete lunacy?
I'm definately interested in opinions and feedback on this subject.
