I'm just having a nice; relaxed game as Imerina; basically to explore the mechanics of Fetishism and seeing how long it takes to get Institutions without development in this remote area.

Anyway; Ceylon managed to remain independant, so I took the Maldives; vassalized Imerina, and just got a foothold in India proper after stealing the Cape from Portugal.

Aside from having the Cults of Islam; Buddhism; Hinduism and Christianity now; I was looking at my missions and noticed something:

kaYKNb8.jpg

There are decisions for Fetishists to convert to a religion that they have in their country. There is no stabhit, and it just needs 1 Stability and you need to have reformed. [I still don't have Feudalism... almost there however!]

This brought a smile to my face; because the Cult events were... well... pretty bad and disappointing. I hoped for them to be more like the Tengri events; spreading the religion proper through your country. But still; having decisions to reform to any religion you have inside your country?

Wait a second.

'To Islam'. Sunni or Shia? I have 1 Sunni province [Maldives] and 1 Shia vassal [Somehow Mahafaly converted to Shia]. Do I convert to Sunni or Shia? Convert to an Indic Faith? Hindu or Sihk? If I intergrate Ceylon; do I get the option to convert to Buddhism; and if that's the case; do I convert to Therevada or get to choose from the three? If Cape was Christian [It's not]; would I get to choose any branch?

The only non-pagan religions that seem to be off-limits are Confucian and Shinto since there's no Cult... but what if I somehow invade those religions and have them inside my country...

I'd test out the Shia/Sunni thing; but I'm on Ironman and my plan was to go Hindu->Sihk. By rebels. In Indonesia. Still; this seems great fun for the Fetishists. I wonder if it's possible to convert to any religion with can give you a cult; thus; if it's possible to convert to the Mayan/Incan/Nathul faiths by decision. If you manage to somehow steal the required province [Hey; one of the new Ethiopian tags is Fetishist! You might be able to steal that Jewish province!] can you become Jewish without rebel shenanigans?

Anyone else done any research on this? My initial plan was to go Sihk because no-one ever goes Sihk and I wanted to basically be the African France between the military bonuses and Morale Imerina gets; and Defensive plus the 10% morale from Sihk.

They're not Fetishist-specific, they're Pagan decisions to convert to non-Pagan religions, which used to happen during Westernization (though I believe it only offered Christianity, though that may just have been because nobody ever Westernized off Islamic or Indic nations). So Buddhists and Eastern faiths should be possible, but new world religions are off the table... except that...

There are specific provinces with temples: Cholula for Nahuatl and Lima for Inti (not sure about Maya) that upon conquest by another Pagan faith will cause an event that allows instant conversion. I would not recommend Nahuatl or Mayan conversion, as you will be unreformed, and both are incredibly punishing to high province-count nations. (Doom ticks faster for each province, Mayans are cut down to a handful of provinces on every reform.)

And if you just want conversion for maxing morale, Shia is 15% morale when including piety, so it's better than Sihkism from a gameplay perspective.

Picking "To Islam" lets you choose which branch you want to convert to, or lets you change your mind, according to the event files. I imagine the other decisions are similar.

Once you take the decision you will get an event offering you to switch to any denominations of that religious group that exists in provinces you own.

@Trin Tragula, the descision for Judaism checks to see if you own a Zoroastrian province, rather than a Jewish one. But you still need a Jewish province to actually make the conversion in the event it.

Looked through the event files, and Maya has no such event; only Nahuatl and Inti. Which makes me sad.
