One of the things that always kinda irked me in HOI3/ HOI2 was that the USA could just instantly drop the tens or hundreds of air units on Great Britain at the declaration of War.

While I know its difficult, could we possibly thing about incorporating aircraft into transports, or some way instead of allowing them to simply rebase about 3000 miles outside of their fuel range?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Atlantic_air_ferry_route_in_World_War_II

1. Either setup the events to build the northern airbases for ferrying through Greenland. And have the planes travel this route, requiring at least an overnight stop in each airfield.

Or

2. Allow the rebasing to happen as it currently does in HOI2 and HOI3, but disable the planes completely for X days that it would have normally taken to ferry them that far. The planes wouldn't be involved in air battles, rebuild strength, or org for those X extra days, and have them take Strength damage for doing it, as not all planes always made it on those long journeys. This means you couldn't rebase airplanes from US into combat zones, and instantly start using them in a few days like happens all the time. It also means that you could end up losing all those planes if the enemy captures that airfield.

This would also stop Germany from rebasing aircraft to Japan, or to Africa etc.

What about something simpler then:

-25% multiplier for organization and strength (as well as regain amounts) for 15 days after rebasing outside the planes range X2.
-50% multiplier "" "" "" "" " "" "" for 30 days after rebasing outside the planes range X4.

I think it would be simple enough for the game to calculate if a viable path from airfield to airfield exists (within rebasing fuel range - I expect that would be somewhere between 2x and 3x operational range) to get to where you wanted to go and have the aircraft automatically take that route (and being able to plot a multi-point route manually through multiple airfields would be nice, if you wanted to take a specific path - like say, avoiding flying across Nazi Germany to go from the British Isles to the Middle East). Without such a route, you wouldn't be able to rebase to the given destination. Carriers would only be able to be used as waypoints if you are rebasing CAGs. (Or they could be used as starting points for other light aircraft for rebasing missions only, if the planes themselves are loaded at a port like a transport. That might be getting a little too finicky though.)

If you want to base them overseas, they could go off map like the HoI2 SR. Becoming available after 2 weeks or whatever at their new base. If you moved them out of range but along a land connection, they could SR just like a land unit does. There is a large ground based element that needs to move too, after all.

There is a large ground based element that needs to move too, after all.

I am not very knowledgeable on such things, but I would guess that these ground-based elements (or at least the hard-to-move ones) are interchangeable to a large degree - in other words, you wouldn't have to move that specific ground staff, you could just assign the planes to a different ground staff at the destination. If there isn't one there, that's a different problem with multiple solutions, including moving the original one as you suggest.

Maybe get a "unit_attack_delay" modifier like for land units?

So after rebasing, f.e. there's a 30 days delay for all actions or something

The same would be great for loading troops into transports.....so the loading of whole divisions should take some days (or at least more than 12 or 24 hours), also the unloading on harbours

+1. This would give more emphasis on important airfield positions in the game.

I hope Paradox comes up with a solution for this. Or perhaps the new interface will solve it anyways.

In HOI3 MP games guys rebase their entire air forces to whatever location needs them. The org penalty is worth the fresh numbers. It's not realistic at all.

As I've been saying all along. Air units (and submarines, for that matter) should have land-based counters that have a weight, speed, org. etc... which acts as the supply/equipment for that air (or sub) unit.

I don't think we should have events for this. Just making it harder to rebase by having it more costly and time consuming. An of course make it so that aircrafts can only rebase indirectly by making them visit a series of airbases within range before they reach their main destination.
