I like the ferries a lot, but have a few complaints. They seem a bit too large. At that size I would expect their capacity to be much greater than 50 passengers. I dislike how they turn, passing through the dock. Especially since they should not turn most of the time anyway, as they appear to be built with two bridges to allow travel in either direction without turning. As I said at the start, I do like them though.
I finished the ferry scenario awhile ago (24 May), and I have to say I really liked the experience. It was an easy scenario, as it says, so not a huge challenge, but it got me to build in ways I have never built before, and I found that very interesting. I recommend it.
The above is what it looked like when the scenario was won. Not done yet. I do want to finish off some things.
There is the "mainland" area you start with, that I did expand, plus two areas (lower left, lower right) that are not connected to each other by road. The two isolated areas each have a train station connected to the outside world (but no routes between the two). The lower right area does have a pedestrian bridge to the mainland, it does the same thing as ferries with no congestion and less cost. Ferries were built after that bridge, and still had lots of passengers, so I left the bridge in place.
A big part of what made it different for me, was aside from the isolated areas being, well, isolated, they are also almost 100% residential. I did drop a few office buildings, mostly in the noisier spots, and of course service buildings. The rest is residential. No commercial or industrial. Have to travel to the mainland for that. I also placed a "Faculty" on each of the isolated areas, so university students living on the mainland must travel to the isolated areas to attend university there.
