I have seen this in 3 games with the 108 patch. The problem is that German AI does not ally Hungary and it even happen in a human German game vs. human USA and human Japan because the alliance event (if there is one) did not timely fire. We reloaded to the autosave and it did not happen again though.
There is no alliance event for Germany and any country, except for annexing Czechoslovakia in March 1939 where Germany can ally with Slovakia or Hungary.

All I know is since I have been playing HOI2 since April 2005, I cannot recall USSR attacking Hungary at this time in the game before. Something subtle must have been changed that needs to be undone. I can deal with it but it is a bit of a pain.

I never play as Germany so I don't know what sets up the German-Hungarian alliance. I spend most of my recent efforts on the Pacific war balance.

If it has been introduced in 108 it has been introduced by accident. The "best" guess i have is that the USSR has an higher org by this time than in 107 and is able to finish its up to 1+3 little wars earlier. Therefore the USSR is stronger and may therefore think about HUN as an easy target. I prefer to think it was not introduced by 108 and i have not seen it in 108 myself, yet.

AI seems fine - but how about player experience?

I've already read a ot of analysis of AI behaviour, especially how JAP, GER, SOV does when AI controlled.

But how are things working for players controlling UdSSR or USA? has anyone tried UK yet? or Germany?
Please report your game experience! Especially the differences to a 1.07 game would be very interesting!

I tried JAP in 1.08/33 and found it far more challanging than in 1.07 or even older versions of 1.08!
I had to concentrate all my affords to CHI and neglect the Navy completly. Now in Mai 1940 I conquered most of CHI but the south is almost impenetrable (still 153 CHI INF, 95% 1936 model, about 5k supplies left in CHI but at least their IC dropped to 19 by now). I hope to get CHI down in a few more month but I am not so sure I can build the navy I need to challenge the USA soon enough for the pacific war.
So all in all: I like it! There is a lot to learn and do better in further JAP games ;o)

Do you have saves from before and after this SOV DOW happened?
Does debugai show any special ai file loaded for SOV and HUN ?
BTW there's no alliance event for GER with HUN or vice versa, just the ai event that lowers HUN neutrality to 95, ai_hun.txt event 32263. If GER has YUG then HUN should ask to join, maybe even earlier.

I hope this comes across without a screenshot:

Great work showing the ranges for naval and air units. One small graphical issue:
For undeployed brigades and divisions (naval or air), the range overwrites the home port/home province that it can be deployed to. Definitely something you can live with, but would be even nicer if fixed. Maybe write the home port somewhere else in the unit rectangle.

As Germany I conquered France, Poland and UK by December 1939 so no different there then :p

I hope the challenge comes wth Barbarossa and USA?
I have yet to try Barbarossa on it, but I'll wait until 1941 rather then 1940 to give the USSR AI a chance :p

I am not sure. Germany might be a bit stronger than intended. But if germany is weakened a bit or the USSR is a bit stronger, then the risk of germany being too weak is relatively big.

i ran 3 games, this time i was Italy, and i chose not to join Germany, and the end was exactly the same, so i think germany is extremely overpowered if it can take down half of the world without much help.

Besides US never lands any troops in europe

i've run two games hands-off as haiti, and germany each time took over half of the world, whole russia, india, asia.. is there a problem with balance?

I hope this stronger Germany only affects the AI (i.e. the changes to Germany would make no effect on multi-player) as Germany is strong enough for MP on 1.07 IMO.

I guess in terms of multiplayer Germany has become weaker than before. In terms of AI germany as much better chances of advancing fast in early barbarossa, but also only then. If moscow has not fallen in early 1942 germany will break under the pressure of the red hordes. In my last handsoff game it appeared to be a chance of 50/50 that AI germany can trigger Bitter Peace. In the second german soviet war after BP the USSR is very strong, it usually has little toruble with poorly supplied german and japan divisions.

well, my idea was to always support the weaker side and change the course of history, so i was usually playing smaller country trying to help germany win, which felt strange considering their national socialist views on some things ;) so this time i can at least really save the world from nazists ;)

so i will play normal (not hands-off) fourth game, but i'm pretty sure it is not matter of luck if it is going so much forward through russia every time

btw, are there any events that would help develop WW3 ? so is there any chance usa or ussr will attack each other later on?

USSR can now avoid purges and can therefore start with full org against germany. If the 6 gpw events fire stalin gets 250 manpower each.

This was one motivation. Still Allies+USSR can beat germany without the help of the USA.

If there is peace after WW2 and one side did get a piece of the cake the other side got in history there are two events that makes the cold war get hot.

Do you mean AI USSR? The USSR has always had the option to avoid purges. And that's good as the USSR should get quite a big manpower advantage over Germany IMO.

This was one motivation. Still Allies+USSR can beat germany without the help of the USA.
As was historically possible, so long as the USSR could have supplied its own industry and Britain had financial support from USA.

Playing as US it appears that since Italy does better in North Africa now, they do a much poorer job of defending Italy proper. A USA landing at Naples soon advances into Southern Germany since tha German AI doesn't seem to want to pull units off the Russian front any time soon. My responce it to place fixed locked Italians in Italy at game start, but the Germans really need to respond too.
