In this thread I'll post my findings about the skirmishes and (mostly) balancing issues. Feel free to comment with your own experiences and motivations (or scenarios) for explanations as you please but please steer clear from derailing the subject.

(1)
After the first few skirmishes it's time for some feedback: As it seems, arty is a little bit to strong against the stresslevels of tanks and so are airborne bombs, they really make the tanks go crazy and fallback even if the bombs weren't that close nor killed anyone. The low caliber fast firing AP guns also are a bit too good at making tanks freak out and fall back (although these were mostly non-experienced units, but still). Off map arty is very well made however and seems good but balanced so far.

These are nitpicky things but they make quite the difference since well timed barrages reverses a tank charge.
So far else I've noticed no performance drops whatsever. Which is a relief.

I'm unsure wether this is the right way to post this, if it isin't I wish someone would either move my post or redirect me.

I am very pleased with the game and had very much fun in the two games i have played so far in the open BETA. :)
Also discovered no bugs, but i may have only overseen them.

For me it is already good work, Eugen!

The most annoying feature thus far is the smoke on the artillery/mortar shells. Just track it backwards and presto, there it is. Granted it's harder to destroy what arty/mortars you find in SD.

Can I ask where the FUEL resupply on trucks is. I don't care about repair in the field. But I can only see ammo in the supply trucks.
Is fuel gone because map sizes are now like company of heroes and men of war?

What is the key for the RANGE tool. I cannot seem to find it (first game). (edit: KEY IS c THX)
Also cannot get the middle mouse button to raise the horizon on the camera, I seem to be stuck looking down. I want to look at the horizon.

Half the Panzy Grenadiers look like fallshirmjagers... or americans.

Fuel has been cut. Its pretty unrealistic from the scope of the game. Vehicles aren't going to run dry in a single battle.

Fuel is gone, thank god. It just made certain units absolutely useless in WG, and it didn't even do what its stats said. Fuel in Wargame did not cover distance, but rather how many seconds of movement the vehicle had.

The scale and the fuel distances was one of the things that set wargame apart from other RTS games. Even Men of War has ammo trucks. I will miss it personally. I will miss the older scale as well. Their does not seem to be much depth to maps anymore. You can roll units straight onto the pitch with very little foresight needed. Because they can be at the front in seconds as a reaction rather than a strategy. You got the points to spend, you got the quick fix right away.

I have not played the open beta yet (because I do not subscribe to pre-order culture), however I was in the closed beta and my biggest complaint for map design in just how shallow they are. However, even if they were deeper, fuel should still be gone as all it did was create unnecessary busy work that made certain units almost useless outside of static defence, and even many of those needed to be refueled just to make it from spawn to the next cap zone.

So far i'm happy with things. Except AA. Much of the AA seems totally useless. I bring it simply for ground support.

At first I found the AA underwhelming, but I was just misunderstanding it. It's there to force enemy planes to retreat, not really to kill the enemy planes or stop them cold before they can deliver their payloads. Rather than parking a bunch of Radar/Infrared doomslayers in forests behind your lines and annihilating any plane who wanders into range, AA is best set up in open fields shielded from direct fire (with bocage, this is easy) where it can suppress and panic enemy planes. This then gives you a huge advantage in any dogfight and allows your fighters to score much easier kills and down the offending plane.

In other words, Wargame required Radar/Infrared/AAA in a comprehensive AA net. SD requires AA and fighters to work in concert.

More often than not it doesn't do that either.

I saw someone on my team call in 3 Bofors and 3 Polstens. Couldn't even force 1 aircraft to turn away before it dropped it's load.

Something isn't right here.

For me personally, sometimes a single gun does the job, sometimes a battery fails.

AA has worked ok for me, sent about 1/4 of the planes away that came at me. Not that I had very many of them up, two/one. Vet units are strong, which feels good. Transports that stick around, halftrack, uk transport, are pretty strong. Ive had several of my at guns mass assaulted by them. Knocked out two and the third/four closed and pinned my AT gun. AT some times seems inaccurate. But overall two thumbs up for balance. Give us more divisions :p !!!
