I've decided to write my first AAR for the forums when EUIV finally comes out. Since Paradox has provided us with the Converter DLC, I've decided to finish a campaign I've created using the Ruler Design DLC.

Starting in The Old Gods campaign, I created a Roman Count in Cornwall, the last vestige of Roman rule on the isles, and possibly in the West itself. To make my AAR and general playing experience more authentic, I'm going to want to mod some of Britain's parameters.

Most importantly, I would like suggestions for what would constitute a Romano-British National Idea group.

I'm also not sure how to mod character names and such. There's little point playing as a Romano-British state and everyone sounding like a standard Briton.

I might have to edit out some of the starting missions. Not sure if my Britain should be given easy access to Normandy and such.

Hey, it seems like a nice idea to create such character on isles... I think that I'll try it myself.

And good luck with Your aar ;)

About names- simply use either Roman ones, or... Romanize British ones. It shouldn't be hard to add endings to words.

I admittedly also cheated and made all my starting vassals Roman in origin as well. It's pretty great watching the Roman culture and character names spreading across the British Isles. :D

Interesting, because I just went through a Romano-British game myself, though I started as the count of Somerset rather than Cornwall. I chose Aurelius as dynasty name, after Ambrosius Aurelius(or Aurelianus) from whom my dynasty claimed heritage, and nearly all my kings were named Constantinus after Constantine III.

Thing is that I'm concerned about four things.

1) I created a custom retinue unit and retinue building for Roman culture - Comitatenses. I know buildings do not carry over to EU4, but what about my retinue? Do they remain as my standing army, if yes will I need to disband them because they are a mod unit rather than vanilla stock?
2) What national ideas will I get as Romano-British? Do I get Latin (Italian?) ideas or British ideas?
3) Is Roman culture supported altogether, can I keep my culture when exporting?
4) I have an unused titular title in my save, which I forgot to deactivate before starting the save. Does it muck up anything?

I found it pretty cool, my own dynasty was named Flavius.

I have no idea what's going to happen with your Comitatenses. If Retinues convert over and your custom unit crashes the game, perhaps disbanding them all and raising a regular Retinue, just for the converter, might do the trick?

Yeah, I'm pretty concerned about the cultural effects. I'm not sure the converter will be able to handle this, and might convert my fairly Romanised Britain to purely English or something. I also didn't claim the Empire of Britannia, as it being Roman culture invalidated me. I assumed this meant I would get England's National Idea group, which I think would be wildly inappropriate for our situation. I was thinking of creating a custom Idea Group, although I'm not sure how much work it would be.

From the stream I watched, I'm fairly sure that the converter only runs with your primary title, so you should be fine on that front at least.

In regards to a custom Idea Group, I think I might go through the list of already created ideas and try and find ones that would be appropriate.

Off the top of my head, some form of land combat buffs would be obvious. I'm not entirely sure if it should just be a pure discipline increase though, the much vaunted Roman tradition and organisation had faded long ago in the West. Although I could always just say Romano-Britain has had a successful revival.

Perhaps a Stability buff for Roman longevity, if the inhabitants of this Kingdom viewed themselves as a direct continuation of the incredibly ancient Rome.
