With 1.3 I took my first foray into the world of diplomacy in Stellaris, quickly Alining myself with 3 other pacifist empires. I eagerly awaited my turn to arrive to sit as president and quickly built up a fedfleet to rival my own.

Then it decided to faf about. It started getting commands I didn't give, going to the federation founders home system, running away from a fight leaving my fleet to die because i didn't realise they left. I sent them back to refit and repair but as soon as they arrived ANOTHER ai command popped up and they entered enemy territory alone and died.

WTF is the point of being president if the AI can still override you're commands to the FEDfleet.

Yes I'm bitter, i lost 25% of my planets to a purifier because of this.

Oh yeah! In several wars that involved a Federation Fleet, I switched the behavior to aggressive. However, it switched back to passive immediately. Then after that a few minutes after it engages something, whether they're outnumbered or outnumbering the enemy, they just fleet without orders.

I have also encountered this problem. It only seems to occur for me when the fed fleet already exists before I become president - i have not seen this behavior when creating a new fed fleet.

Current workaround for this bug: when you become president, create a new fed fleet and transfer all the ships from the old fleet that is misbehaving to the new one (needs to be done every time it is your turn to be president)

Hm. Not a problem I've seen. The federation president has had control of the fleet, which does change at times. Might be a bug happening in your playthrough. Since others are seeing it, might be a good idea to try and make a bug report. There might be a similar element.
