War should have a lot more effect on the population than just war weariness.

If you have a core on foreign territory, then pro-military and jingoist pops should get preogressively more and more militant unless you try and get it back. Conversely, if you have a largely pacifist or anti military population, unprovoked war should cause you real problems.

Yea. Pacifist POPs should have a MIL increase while the country is at war (Vietnam anyone?) while jingoist POPs would have a MIL increase if the country was at peace for a long time while having unconquered cores. It's a very nice idea. In fact, the very act of declaring war should cause the MIL of pacifists to rise instantly (like when in Vicky1 we change govts).

Hello

Hello from Paris, France
I've just read the news "Victoria 2" announced and I'm very excited ! This is from far my favorite Paradox game (It really mixes Politics, economics, and wars -but not really diplomatics :p, so you don't have time to be bored)
Sorry for my english.

I'll read all this forum tonight so you may already have said it won't be implemented, but I can't wait to ask for something :
PLEASE !! Do not make victoria 2 a 3D game !
- It brings nothing (I mean it does not improve the gameplay)
- It requires a recent PC (I can play Vicky without trouble, but this is not the case for EUIII and I fear HoI III...)
- I like the beautiful but still old school graphism like Railroad Tycoon II (where I still can visualize mountains, even in 2D) or the very detailed ones like Caesar II or even Caesar III (still very light). I still play to Imperialism II, and the graphisms are old, that's true, especially in fights, but they are still nice and the game is still good ! All I wanted to say is that graphism is a part of the game, it can be beautifull but still light.
I think there is a way to do a great artistic job in that matter !

Also, I would like to say that even if Victoria were considered as a very hard game by most of players I think it would be a mistake to make a victoria 2 easier.
On the contrary, I think it should be even more challenging (as it is opus 2 :D), BUT with a campaign or something to help new comers (they can really be hurted if they cannot play quickly). This is something I heard a lot : "there is no tutorial". They do not understand how to manage a province, hox to make profit, how organize their armies.
In a general way, maybe we should see more easily what is changing, what is happenning. Graphically speaking

I would like to see a clearer organisation in the military forces.

I also would like to have a real and good diplomatic panel. Treaties broken, alliances hidden or not, exchanges etc
diplomacy is a really missing to vicky.

I would like to see implemented (as I consider Victoria as the most balanced Paradox Game), the concept of each ruling system. I.E. crusader kings is all about to have heirs. This is really interesting but i wonder how it could be implemented in victoria. There is a small part of that in EUIII : you cannot make royal marriage with a non monarchist country. To have a king should allow some things, but it should force you to be very preocupated by having heirs.
Well, that's again just an idea.

I'll also would like more economics. It could be used in the way of concept (the point I developed just before) : a communist country, should not do the same as a catholic monarchy, and not the same with a protestant monarchy etc etc
I don't know what and how you could improve economy but I think it should be more interesting than quickly just produce and sell products.

Also, I like the music in Vicky, and I think you should try to add much more music. Much :D

edit : Also due to the popularity of Netbook like the NC10 from Samsung, I would like to be able to play in 1024*600 (it means I would like to be able to play from a netbook :)

LINUX SUPPORT : will there be a linux support ?

I saw a suggestion somewhere else on the forum, so I'm going with it: missions.

Dynastical system

Well, Vicky's period is not so crowded with crowned heads and dynasties as CK or EU periods, but we still have lots of them - the Habsburgs, Romanovs, Saxe-Coburg-Gothas, Hohenzollerns and so on. Will Vicky 2 give player a chance to forge diplomatical marriages, experience monarch's personal influence on government and so on? That would surely add to the specific climate of the Victorian period.

If I may suggest something, the dynastical module could be combined with prestige system - actions of the royal family could influence prestige rating and be a factor in calculating the chances of success for political actions, ministers' and cabinets' influence upon politics and so on. Plus, should espionage system be included, the option may turn out to be limitless - remember poor Franz Ferdinand or (less Vicky-timeline, but still close enough) Edward VIII :)

The importance of ports

I would really like to see ports gain some importance in Vicky 2, especially regarding trade.

For example; Trieste was extremely important to Austria as a trading port, whereas it had little meaning as a military one. Vice versa was true for Pula. The Austrian South Railroad was built specifically to connect Vienna to Trieste, which was nothing short of a lifeline for the Empire.

Don't know how easy/hard it is to implement something here, but the jist of it is:

a) make ports more important

b) make capitalists take factories, ports etc. into consideration when building railroads

if i was boss i would import the supply system from hoi 3: all goods will follow railways down to the big harbours and ports and from there be ship to the place where it will be used.

now, this will probably not happen as it would be a rather big hit on the cpu while not bring That much to the gameplay...

Satellites. There should be more incentive to have them, such as material gains, extra trade access, ability to meddle in their internal politics etc. There should also be the possibility of satellites breaking free if they are more powerful than their master country. Maybe have different kinds of satellites which operate in very different ways, such as protectorates, colonial companies, etc.

I think we will have plenty of things to do already if it is like Vicky 1 with improvments.

Yeah, ports gave these nations unimpeded access to the world market.

Perhaps one thing that can be done to emphasize this importance is that land-locked countries must trace what's similar to a supply route through other nations when determining their sea access for world trade. Then any of those nations can charge a transit tariff on all transactions made - or maybe just a static rate charge to keep things simple or even just a decay in goods depending on distance (i.e you bought 100 units of timber but by the time it arrived to your home through foreign provinces you lost 15 units). So land-locked countries will have a great desire to seek their own ports to avoid paying this transit fees to their neighbors.

But this may just place more burden on the AI who has already been too easily bankrupted!

still he is right. it adds nothing to the game. but we all know it's going to be 3d. market demands.

BTW, something cool for the graphics could be to have the info for some province shown in a 3d windows on top of it with the proper perspective. completely useless, i know, but i searched for the aesthetic thingies thread and was moved to this one, so here it is.

+1

Mining concessions, exlusive markets etc. And also if rebels that are politicaly motivated take the capital, maybe they should be able to break the satallite status... but maybe not, depends on what satalitte status means exactly.

It adds extreme moddability. That alone is enough.

I think it would be great if Vicky2 is built on a Marxist understanding of economics.:)

Marxist analysis was a very Victorian world view, although German. And perfect for this game.

I just thought of something that would be brilliant: embargos. Playing as UK and dont want to slow Japan's industrialisation? refuse to sell any of your products to them, the shortage of machine parts will slow them down. Playing as US and think you are the first to develop dreadnought tech? Dont let the UK get it, keep your advantage... come on, this would add a whole interlocked dimension of war/industry/diplomacy
