Both of my main machines now are widescreen lcds, one at 1280x800 and the other 1440x900. I'm still playing Victoria (now Revolutions, of course) at 1024x768, the best available resolution. Things look fair, not a particularly graphics intensive game anyway. I'd sure like to be on a 16:9 proportion and possibly one of the above resolutions though... Any chance of a revision to the display resolutions?

I would also like to be able to see a date/time stamp on my saved games in the load games screen - sometimes I forget which was my last save, or if there has been an autosave since my last save, etc.

Thanks,
Scott

Just select the save, then select your country and the date will be displayed.

I think he is requesting date/time saved - relevant where you have replayed from an earlier save.

But in normal circumstances the save file will have the game date as part of the save name and you can check the autosave game date as noted above.

If you have replayed some dates, I suggest giving them distinguishing save names to identify them more easily.

I think he's talking about today's date & time, not the date in game.

A simple solution is to alt-tab out of the game, open up windows explorer, open up the Victoria\scenarios\save games folder and look at the date / time stamps on the various save game files you have there (the autosaves will be there as well). N.B. You may need to click on "view" on the explorer menu and select "details" if the list of files is not showing the "date modified" column.

On the widescreen thing, there was a fellow named "Unknown" who had provided a resolution changer for the games based on the same engine (EU2, Vicky, and HOI/HOI2). Unfortunately paradox has not released an official one.

No matter what, there's no easy way to offer a lot of resolutions. The graphics technology in this is circa 1992, it's all 2D and that means ALL the art assets have to be redone at different resolutions if you want them the same size, or a 12x12 pixel object will be really quite tiny on a 1600x1200 monitor. Microsoft has the same problem with fonts on high resolution monitors and this is part of the driving force behind the move to purely 3D technologies (which allow an object to take up say 1% of the screen, get anti aliased and not look like crap, regardless of what screen resolution you have). The tools for res changing do allow/require you to edit a file and change its size but that doesn't solve the problem of changing the size of all the other art assets. No matter what you do, anything in this series is going to look like crap on anything other than a CRT monitor. Pretty much your best bet is to check the modifications forum for any updates on a resolution changer and see if one of those meets your fancy.

This is correct - I want to know when I saved the game.

This is simple? Yes, of course I know how to find the date/time stamp in windows explorer! I don't want to task switch to do it, should be very simple to change in the load game screen. I often get graphics corruption from task switching paradox games, it is usually better to just exit.

Re: resolution - hmm, I'll poke around and see if I can find the resolution switcher, thanks.

Sigh, unknown - no activity for over a year. Website - gone. Is it possible to play V:R in windowed mode? That might help...

Scott
See http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=262586 . It isn't a "real" windowed mode with resizing, a title bar, minimize/maximize/close buttons, etc. but it is in a window. The resolution switcher didn't work well on higher resolutions than 1280x1024 but I believe people did get it to work on 1280x800. AFAIK there's no resolution patcher available for Rev.

Victoria worked really well in 1440x900 resolution, with unknown's patch. All you had to do was to make a load_user.bmp in the proper resolution. No graphical glitches at all, though clicking on Memel became a little hard...

I think the problem is than any res with a vertical > 1024 causes it to CTD if you try to scroll the map down using the mouse. There's probably another value in the code somewhere that could be changed to fix that if we knew where it was. Unfortunately my unsupported LCDs are 1400x1050, 1600x1200, and 1920x1200. I usually just run in a window instead when I'm not using the notebook in my sig.
