hi there!
background:
---------------------------------
i am the type of player who plays eu4 in single player and does a lot of micro management. i usually set the message option in such a way, that notifications, i consider important, pause the game. when a notifications pauses the game, i do all the micro management and then hit unpause. and the game runs at full speed until the next important notification. for me this is the most comfortable way of playing eu4 in single player. but i miss some features which would make this user experience perfect. and one of them is ...
requested feature:
---------------------------------
a "unit built" notification
explanation:
---------------------------------
a "unit built" notification is issued when a province has finished building a unit.
examples:
---------------------------------
- "A mercenary longbow infantry regiment was raised by austria in the province of parma. (it cost 15 ducats and needed 15 days to be raised.)"
- "An early frigate light ship was put to water by the ottomans in the province of byzanz. (it cost xx ducats and needed 345 days to be built.)"
- "A regular Defensive American Musketeers infantry regiment was raised by the sioux in the province of apalache. (it cost 10 ducats and needed 45 days to be raised.)"
specifics:
---------------------------------
a unit built notification would show the following information:
- which nation built and owns the unit
- name of province
- regular or mercenary
- main type
- sub type
(- days required for building this unit)
(- cost)
- the "go to" button would center on the location of the unit
the "unit built" notification would of course have the same options (show as icon, pop up and pause, etc ... ) as other notifications
considerations:
---------------------------------
this type of message can also be implemented for interesting and other nations. just like most of the other messages. this way in case of enemy provinces the player would also get some sort of warning, that the enemy raised an regiment or put a ship to water in a province.
although just for provinces within the view distance. for example, if the player can not see into the province of vienna, then also no message is displayed to the player about a unit finished being built in this province.
and of course in case of foreign nations, the message can not include information about cost. and in my opinion it only should include information about building time if this province was observable the whole time.
information about costs and building time may be of a degree of detail not necessary for this kind of message altogether. for this reasons i put this information into brackets in the example and specifics sections.
potential pitfalls:
---------------------------------
could not think of any
additional explanation:
---------------------------------
in general the absence of this feature leads to units not being put into use as soon as possible. armies linger around, smoking cigarettes and getting bored, ships are not sent to protect trade but add to the harbors view ... ;-)
to a player who does micro management, it is important to know when a unit is awaiting new orders. this is when a unit:
- has reached its designated destination
- has reached its self-chosen destination (after fleeing from battle) - this one does not have a notification
- has finished a combat
- has finished a siege
- was built - this one does not have a notification
- is organized again - this one does not have a notification
when building units during war time, it especially is important to know, when a province has finished building a unit and this unit is ready to be commanded. often a player would build a unit in provinces close to the front line. in this case, not watching when a unit is ready, may lead to (a) this unit not being used in combat when it would be important and/or (b) this unit being destroyed by moving armies of the enemy.
i hope this helps and thanks for taking this into consideration
