would like to be able to see with whom i have played previous games with so that i can contact them (from inside Magicka perhaps?) and schedule new games.

We have updated our Community Code of Conduct. Please read through the new rules for the forum that are an integral part of Paradox Interactive’s User Agreement.
Given the game is currently Steam only, this feature is already present: you can use the Steam friends list. When adding friends there's an option to add people from recent games you've played. Shift+tab to bring up the overlay in-game to chat / join friend's games etc.
