So it seems a lot of people like the underdog. Weather playing as them or rooting them along during your game as a different nation. There's a lot of them to choose from, Granada, The Knights, Orleans, a few dozen others. So, who's your favorite underdog?

Denmark, right now, since they are usually reduced to Capital and half of Norway.

When you give it french, german, and italian culture!:D

Do you do this regularly?

In my own take of the grand campaign I have them placed like that, but I have never played a game with it yet.

How do they manage with that setting, can they manage to expand on their own?

Seems like a lot of people see France fall to its lessors in their games. I've only seen this once. (When I wasn't directly involved) Even then it was that they fell to religious wars mostly. Other then that they've formed quite fine in every game I play. Wonder why? : )

i like to have aztecs, incas and lenape untouched until im ready to expand for good reason :D

my non-egoistic good wishes go to eire & scotland - beat them heretic colonies spreading anglosaxons! - and whoever keeps the majors down for some time (with the exception of siebenbürgen :D )

outside europe baluchistan, the golden horde and tibet

Switzerland. Never have I seen them being independent in later stages. They often get diploannexed by Austria or downright conquered. Arrrgh.

Orléans doesn't win the longevity contest either. For whatever reason king Harry always heads in their direction as soon as the game starts.

Have you ever tried playing them yourself? I'm right now in a sudden rush of patriotism ;) I tried 'em and I always get beaten up either by austria, france or the church state (or sometimes by all at once).

I'm beginning to wonder if I'm just too stupid for this game, up till now I only played great powers (castille, france, sweden...) but I just can't do anything with the smaller ones.

id suggest you to get into a strong alliance and raise war taxes whenever possible as long as you are small. also winter is your best friend, build up your fortresses and watch em eating snow ;)

Switzerland is going to be brutalized by Austria pretty fast, and that is bad for the future.

Kiss up on the English and join their alliance ASAP, since it should allow you cheap gains in france as well as protection from Austria.

I'm fond of Candar ( "Jan 2 1419:Ottoman Empire DOWs Candar" always seems to pop up) and Ragusa in 1617 (One province minor on the Border of a huge Ottoman Empire which has a CB shield on their only province. I always get annexed very quickly as them)

The majors are fun because of their events. The underdogs are fun because of the challenge.

Right now, my vote for #1 underdog would have to go to Granada. The One True Way to play Granada is to declare war on spain on 1/1/1419 and let the good times roll.

I like liberating underdogs! I liberated Eire from the English clutches and the KoJ from the Mameluks, and the second England DoWs me again I'll go, whoop their 100k army and set those English revolters (Jacobits? Royalists? Something like that) free! :D

And if Spain gives me crap, there's Cataluna. But I prefer to create small countries on the fringe of Europe... Eire, Sicily, Corsica, Norway, and such. Oh and I think as soon as it's possible I will set Brazil free and play as... Empire of Brazil!!! And I will unite South America! :D

Danke, I just started a new game since I realized that I pissed of every neighbour of mine (I force-annexed baden, würtemberg, lombardia and savoye and now my reputation is rotten), I guess I have to go a little slower :D

btw: thanks for the snow-hint, I somehow didn't get this.
