That's the greatest piece of news I've ever heard in my entire life. And no, I am not exaggerating. I suppose the trick is finding lowborn women.

My favourite minor dynasties are d'Hauteville and a Muirebe, though I tend to play as Jimena and de Normandie a lot.

Yeah, I'm big in the history of the d'Hautevilles and you'd be suprised to know they are NOT minor.
I like to put my own last name via character creator into some county in Dalmatia, and work my way up

Count Penthièvre in Brittany. With his horde of children and grandchildren he is like a real life Walder Frey. And I'm a sucker for cool dynastic names.
I'm also partial to House Torchitorio on Sardinia. Starting out can be...tricky. But to date they are still the dynasty I've had the most fun with. In one game I managed to get an Invasion CB on Venice, and so Torchitorio became kings of Venice. Good times.
And while not really minor in IRL, there is something very satisfying in playing those minor houses called d'Ivrea, Lusignan and Anjou.

I,ve always had a spot for the Anushtingids, although they might not count as their one of those dynasties that are minor early on but really important later on
Yeah, that's them. My last 1.05 game was as them, trying to take Scotland and turn it Norse, but 1.06 came out and there were a few problems so I abandoned it. I may start a new 1.07 game as them and try it again, though.
Spartenos! Started my second game as them and gotta say post-Sword of Islam surviving as them just got a bit harder. Egyptian Caliph had just conquered all Southern Italy (except tiny Napoli, beacon of Orthodox faith in the West ) after a successful Jihad and I thought I was finished. Then huge luck! Pope Alexander II takes it all back few years later. So 30 years down 300 more to go. Had such fun with this family, never disappoints.

Luckily for you, if you remain Greek / Orthodox and form the kingdom of Sicily then as of 1.07 it should start with those as its conquest 'flag', meaning that the rest of Sicily should convert to Greek culture over time. Then you can be a proper Magna Grecia!
