1. Pretenders to the Throne: Best mission of the campaign. Gone are the silly monsters and bosses, fight heroes and kill them soon before they become a threat to you. With heroes defending their home getting crushed, and some improved Kingdom AI (Them being allowed to set flags and build some more) this could be a classic. Still; in it's current form it's pretty nice. Just needs the flickering UI fixed.

2. The Demon Advisor: Allows you to build up your base pretty peacefully (unlike, say, Skeleton King or Mortal Foil), yet in an interesting enviroment with improvingly difficult foes. Maybe a bit too much on the easy side for the final-last mission (clean map on day 60 is pretty much a given, then rushing the Advisor. Sure, THAT guy is tough, but not more than the Ancient Lich).

3. Dangerous Valleys: Constant action, but not too difficult so a lot of fun defending against.

LEAST favorite maps:

1. Gold of Chyort: Few heroes needed, insane short gametime and required rushing. BORING. Give me a 100 day game over this anytime.

2. Trouble with the Afterlife: That darned Lich! While the map certainly is interesting, the battle with the Lich is just frustrating. My least favorite "Boss-fight".

The 3 survival missions are my favorite, especially Battle in the Desert. I love how the mission starts off easy and gets harder as time goes on. Pretenders to the Throne is also fun for the same reason. IMO it's how difficulty should scale for all the quests in the game. A progressive difficulty lets the gamer play with temples and high level heroes without having to milk the quest.

I'd say my favorite mission and by far the one I got the most mileage out of was Battle for Survival on the Plains (second mission in the demo). I loved playing that map with all sorts of various goals and limitations.

What limitations? I'm replaying the campaign and choose no towers, no rangers, only one guild of rogues. The beginner maps was very easy, but Baron's Bill required care and I got plenty fun the Big Trouble nor found it too easy, but then came the King Rat map, the map I disliked, and no towers in this map seems just impossible.
I never committed myself to making limitations across the entire campaign--usually just challenges tailored to individual missions. Using only rogues may be fun for one mission but be a total chore for another. I've never been a fan or particularly interested in achievement systems but I think it would have boosted Majesty 2's replayability if there were trophies or achievements for accomplishing various objectives, feats, and challenges throughout the game. Not that I had trouble coming up with some of my own challenges, but I think it would've been better if the game offered some kind of encouragement or reward for trying out different things.

The goals that I made for Survival on the Plains developed as I was learning the game. At first it was simple stuff like just beating the mission, and then slightly more advanced stuff like completing it with all trade posts, completing it with all lairs destroyed, completing it with all temple nodes used, etc. Then I had goals to better learn hero types so I'd win using only rogues, only rangers, only wizards (which would change to "beat it with wizards and one rogue's guild" ;)), etc. The one I probably got the most longevity out of was maximizing my economy (specifically the "Gold Accumulated" score) which I kept improving upon from a humble ~100K when I was still new to the demo, then 150K and 165K when I thought I had it more or less maxed out. And eventually 200K and finally 256K after I had played through the full version twice and returned back to it with some new insight and tricks.

I also spent a good portion of an evening trying to win Gold of Chyort in as few days as possible until I got down to 6 days and felt I couldn't improve upon it. I had a bunch of other little challenges like that for other missions, but I got the most mileage out of Survival on the Plains so that's why I regard it as my favorite.
