lifeless, KILLER BOB, ghostwriter, Lord E, whispering death I think the Scapa Flow issue will need to be dealt with by rushing north, seal them off and attack. With 17 divisions present they have clearly had a major force there for some time. Whilst some can be seen to have movement orders to move south there is clearly a large force being left there. If they reach Inverness then Stornoway will need sealing off but otherwise I can leave them to it. If I end up fighting them in Scapa flow I can expect it to be 24 InfArt versus 17 British divisions but with full shore bombardment support. This should be adequate in the clear terrain.
Interdiction support for the attack will help but sustained air operations over Scapa Flow would be dangerous as it has significant AA and with air units operating from a minor airfield at Glasgow they will not recover from AA damage.
There is a minor temptation to leave a small British enclave so I can use convoy warfare to destroy their convoy fleet. This is probably completely pointless since their convoy fleet will now be huge compared with their commitments. A more attractive enclave is the landing in Portsmouth which is where the main fleet is currently enjoying some target practice with the allied fleets.
The main risk in respect of Stornoway is that additional new British troops will land there effectively circumventing my race to Inverness. I don't expect this to happen whilst they hold Portsmouth as this should draw all transports arriving from the Atlantic.
It is interesting how much you can deduce about what will probably happen since the AI is relatively predictable. If Britain was being managed by a human player then it would be a lot more worrying and I would be expecting amphibious landings all over (or an attempt at complete evacuation)
Brad1 The current main fleet is yielding a -42% shore bombardment modifier. As I have mentioned before this is actually better than it sounds. Enemy penalties are always more valuable then friendly benefits. In terms of battle winning capability this -42% penalty is equivalent to a +72% bonus for my troops.
Ghostwriter I could edit Lord E's name but I still need to remember he exists and look for him when doing a city attack. I'll never find him unless I remember that I need Lord E. The game needs some better tools for looking for things, ie a stats page where I can list 'city attacker' leaders. I've got this in the editor for the normal traits but there is nothing for the learned traits.
