if you want to convert ie Venice to sunni , you have to be alot richer and luckier though

other than i guess colonies are the fastest and cheapest

Naah you just got a random conversion event, does happen at a guess once per 100 years - typically I get 2-3 per 200-250 years in a campaign. The worst I have seen is converting the Indians, the idots in Alleghany embraced protestantism 1 year after I had put in 250d, and then I couldnt chang e their culture anymore .

I've had one in 28 months as the Ottoman Empire converting Hungary with Suleyman, and I imagine it can be less. I think it depends on the monarch.

Yes, it was an event, conversion of heretics. But the fastest conversion I still have ever seen. Only two months from putting in the missionary.

You can get a conversion event without having a missionary in the province! I suspect Chinguns 28 months with a missionary would be one of the fastest due to a missionary, I have never seen anything less than 36 months (also with the Ottos).

Colonies are definately not the fastest, as it takes much longer if the provinces are far away and not connected to the capital by land.
