So as my first game I will be using German PP to push the French to joining the Axis and allowing a split between ourselves to control Europe.

A query, understanding that outside of military coup it would never happen, but in the instance that France turned its back on the UK and allies, would the UK simply retreat from continental issues?

Without a land based ally surely they would not risk entanglement? Wouldn't the "wooden walls" come up and the UK would just concentrate on its overseas holdings and trade?

Just trying to see if I can have a focus on Axis v Commintern.

I don't think it would be particulary easy for the game to rrpresent that when dealing with an AI. In real life, I suppose it's possible. Its also possible, though, that they would get involved anyways because it's the "right thing to do". In game terms, though, I think that you would infact find yourself at war with the UK. The question is, will they be a threat? I don't think the AI would launch an invasion, it would practically be suicide.

You'll probably end up at war with the UK because they'll likely guarantee somebody but they're unlikely to be able to establish a continental foothold until US intervention. Although, be warned France has a massive coast you'll need to defend from amphibious invasion.

Well note if the French are intact, they just move their troops from the Maginot to the coast.

It'll be interesting, that's for sure! UK will probably still guarantee Poland, but with FRA, ITA, and GER (and maybe NAT SPA), the continent would be secure.

Expanding would be a pain in the ass for you specifically without declaring war on Britain, all of your potential fronts would either be allies (Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan via china), or Britain and her colonies (Africa, India via Vietnam). Even more so since the UK will probably have naval superiority over you, unless you convince Italy to combine fleets (something I find that the AI is doubtful to execute properly, so ideally it would be a coop player), and a lot of your supply and troop movement would have to be done by sea.

The USSR front would have to be a naval invasion, since you cant invade from another country (Such as Germany), but you could probably execute that. It might raise the world tension enough for the UK to guarantee someone that Germany declares war on, and then they would enter the war anyway. And all of this assuming Germany doesnt drag them into the war way before your USSR invasion via the Polish guarantee.

Before switching to Fascist, help Republican Spain win the civil war. Then when you switch to Fascist, you can declare war on Spain and quickly eat them, although then your coastal defenses will be waaay too overextended.

Also, help Japan steamroll China from Vietnam, but that would give you yet another large front when attacking the USSR.

However, if Japan never seizes French controlled colonies, a US oil embargo on Japan won't happen(in theory, unless they seize Dutch colonies, but you can beat them to it after eating the Netherlands :)), and hopefully USA won't enter the war until you want them to.

Is there attrition on a oversized fleets? In hoi3, couldn't you form 100 ship fleets with no penalties?

I didn’t mean the game attrition, but the production one. Like, even if they win every single engagement, they won’t be able to outproduce France, Germany and Italy. At some point the tide will have to change. Especially if France and Italy keep their possessions in Africa (and therefore have access to resources).

Now that's effective, awesome plan! Even better, since this might lock Gibraltar for the Royal Navy, I don't recall if the straits DD talked about Gibraltar specifically, but I believe the new rules will essentially make it impassable to all but subs. Which means that you would turn the Mediterranean into a axis lake, and can then do Naval invasions all over it with impunity. From there a black sea invasion of the USSR is a lot more feasible.
