I'm playing victoria for the first time and fyi, I've played eu2 extensively.

I'm finding that I have far too much money and I can't spend it 100% on research like EU2. In fact I am playing as Belgium, just got those sacred machine parts, and still have like 140k pounds. I've upgraded all of my provinces to level 2 railroads.

what do I do? I'm making over 100 pounds of money each month! this seems like such a waste.

PS - I have checked the unofficial faq, the victoria technology website, and vickywiki. excellent resources but alas no answer to my dilemma

You'll need at least 300+ a day for military maintenance and spending if you end up in a large war with someone like France. The excess cash is meant to be for the troops, raise and army and go raise some hell if pure economy is getting too easy ;)

vanilla. colonies don't seem too useful in this game. all I need is more people in my factories. I just want to have the most advanced armies in the game. and if eu2 has taught me something, it's to go for infrasturcture/trade techs first. err. i mean industrial/commerce.

I guess what I'm trying to do is to have the other powers waste their money killing other people while I research my way along. the civilization approach, if you will. I picked up an ally in GB so I'm pretty sure that france won't risk invading. neither will netherlands. I may just pick up an army to pick on the dutch though, they have no friends!

BTW this is the first time I've ever seen some one complain they had TOO much money. :D

You know, I've never had the feeling I have too much money. I always wanted more money because I can always find good ways to spend them :) Unless I plan to wage a large, long war, I don't let my cash pile up that much usually. Use my cash to promote pop, build more factories, or build up my military. I don't like too much money sitting idle, I may build up a strategic money reserve though, depending on game situation.

This is exactly the advice I'm looking for.

How do I promote pop? I instituted social programs but I'm Belgium, not the US. I went and conquered some of the dutch and sued for a huge number of indonesian folks...

What more do you suggest? I basically want to pour it into some kind of way to invest in my country.

Vanilla is usually taken to mean patched with the newest official patches, but without any user-made modifications installed :)

If you're playing 1.00, upgrade to 1.03(b), that should solve most of your problems with excess cash ;)

Most likely not, unfortunately. Doesn't mean you can't try, but you should expect incompatabilities, I'm afraid

select your farmer, labourer, as long as you have the ncessary resources (tobacco, reg. cloth, reg. furnniture, paper, lux cloth, lux furniture), you can promote them into craftsman or clerk. You can then promote clerks to capitalists if you wish.

It's quite easy, and don't forget RR your entire nation.

It's easy to spend money for me, it's figure out how to spend them the best way is the biggest problem. Should I promote pop first? RR first? or build up some military to deter potential enemies? Use diplomacy to buy land, tech? As you can see, cash is king in this game, kinda :D

if too easy for you, get the latest patch like everybody has been saying... im sure since you are an eu veteran, surely you know the values of the latest and greatest. there have been many wonderful fixes/tweaks to the game since 1.0... im sure you will find it more challenging also, thus giving you the answer to your question
