I had a dream last night, a vision really, commanding me to play Australia 1.06c-Vanilla and unleash upon the far eastern world an armada of high-tech well made Aussie submarines and defeat facism in all its forms.

So I woke at 8:00am this morning and spent my day doing just that. I upgraded my industry and focused my tech on submarines, letting my allies feed me techs from all other areas.

By 1944, the home islands of Japan are isolated from her far flung asian empire by the allied fleets, spearheaded by the experienced australian submarine armadas.

I feel good, I have succeeded in my goal. The war isn't over, but without the supply transports from the capital at Tokyo being able to break the blockade and reach the mainland armies in China and abroad they will soon break.

Just for fun, to see the extent of the damage I have inflicted, I load the game as Japan. As I expected, Japan is cut off, they have no more transports in their pool, and all their convoy routes are in the red. However, their armies in China are still in supply.

I research this and see they have a supply stockpile in a province in Korea, but that stockpile does not diminish in size as time passes. Researching further, I run down the main Japanese stockpile in Tokyo. Only after the supply in Tokyo reaches zero do the mainland armies lose supply and begin to decrease org. All this while there is no convoy contact between Tokyo and any other province in the world.

So I am confused. How are the troops in China remaining in supply via the Tokyo supply stockpile without a convoy to ship them over? Is this a glitch or an AI exploit or something else I am missing?

I'm hoping I didn't waste a day on a defunct strategy.

Any thoughts appreciated!

-Duncan

I understand there is a supply bug which affects the player as well, where Jap units in China get the -20% unsupplied factor even when there are supplies available. Perhaps this is related.

So take their home isles! I once noticed a thread in the forum, where someone wrote that a territory with more than three (or five?) adjected provs provide supply for units stationed there. Im not sure about that, but even that wouldnt explain, why japan itself is without supply.

I know that if a province has a supply stockpile, it will disperse those supplies to the military units in or adjacent to the province, as long as there is a land connection to the province. If there is no land connection, a naval convoy is required to spread the suppies.

Here is the root of my confusion; there is no land connection from the Japanese islands to the mainland of China, and I had blockaded the Japanese islands until no transports or escorts remained in the Japanese transport pool. Yet the Japanese troops in China remained in supply until, through experiment, the Tokyo supply stockpile went to zero; then they were out of supply. This is all counterintuitive to me.

And I would invade the home islands, but I spent all my research and production IC on submarines. I left the infantry stuff to the UK and New Zealand. :)

Perhaps this old thread will explain why. It says here that it is a bug that if you played as Japan your troops in mainland China is somewhat magically always resupplied if you don't set-up a convoy from Japan to mainland China.

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=154111&highlight=supply+modifier

For people playing as Japan this could be helpful as they will not have the -20 lack of supply penalty.

I have somewhat a different kind of supply problem, i played as the Americans 1.06c (they truly are powerful in this game) i joined the allies and started building up my forces in Britain. Then came Dday i made an amphibious assault of 12 marine division in Caen it was easily captured and reinforcement keep pouring in, also set-up a huge supply convoy from mainland US. The Germans made desperate counter-attacks to recapture the beachead, but they were easily repulsed by my technologically superior forces.. It was OK.

However when i started the break-out from Caen everytime i went into offensive i incur this -20 lack of supply penalty...WHY? i have a huge stockpile of oil and supplies in caen, on defense though i never incur this penalty.

I enjoyed the game but that penalty bugs me that i eventually ended that campaign and started a new one, this time as Italy. I hope there is a way round that problem though :)

I'm not sure if this applies in your case but there are provinces in the game
that have (& generate,iirc) supplies.
Port Said is an example iirc.
I suppose their purpose is so that troops can be supplied far from home.
Again iirc, these ports reflect the resources/supplies generated from that
area.
I also think that this was mentioned before somewhere but I can't find it now
either.
It seems reasonable to expect China (asia) to generate enough supplies for
a large army because it was doing it for it's army before its demise.

Maybe this is the reason why my troops doesn't lose org and strength in Southampton ( the province i got in Britain after i joined the allies) even if i don't have supply convoy there or maybe because it's connected to an allied capital London.

"I also think that this was mentioned before somewhere but I can't find it now

I'll try to search again this furom on this one. Thanx for the info Lordsid :)
