Hey guys,

I just wanted to ask if it is possible to trade with the Curators and/or Enclaves while playing a Fanatical Purifiers build. Did one of the developers talk about this topic? Otherwise the Leviathans story pack wouldn't make much sense for this civic and I don't want to miss my Ministry of Culture. :p

No, Fanatic Purifiers won't be able to engage peacefully with enclaves, destroying them is all they can do.

So always closing borders to them will be a good idea, so they don't swing around and destroy enclaves within your space! :D When... you're at truce with them.

@Diezy , You realize that enclaves have no fleets, they just have one space Station? They're those Traders, scientists and Artists you find in the middle of nowhere.

@Lichterfest1387
I think that you will be able to still trade and communicate with enclaves if you don't attack them. If you want to try it out, go "Fanatic Xenophobe+Collectivist/Militarist", then you'll have the AI personality "Fanatical Purifier". Just look for an enclave, make contact and try communicating with them. ;)

He means you closing borders with Purifiers (although I assume they are auto-closed anyway) so that they won't gank curators in your space.

He also talks about the situation in Utopia where Fanatic Purifiers are completely barred from any form of diplomacy.

“And we have the Fanatic Purifiers,” says Anward, “which are kind of special. It’s you basically deciding that your species is the only one that’s allowed to exist. If you pick this one, you will disable all diplomacy in the game. The only thing you can do is declare war, declare rivalry and send insults. It also disables a lot of special interactions between things like independent space stations, where normally you would be able to call them up and say, ‘Hey, let’s trade’. You will only be able to call them up to yell insults over the communicator.” - Martin Anward aka Wiz.

In Utopia, fanatic purifier specifically refers to the new civic that shuts off all diplomatic interaction other than war. It's mechanically entirely different to the AI personality.

Honestly, I imagine it would block interaction with enclaves and if it doesn't, would probably be more down to oversight than intention.

These are empires that do not do pragmatism in their genocidal crusade - no temporary NAPs of convenience to secure a border while dealing with a mutual threat; no mercy for any intelligent alien within their territory despite the advantages of putting them to use.

Why would an empire who has dedicated itself to an ideology of extremism over practical concerns decide the aliens are just useful enough to tolerate?

Purifiers are basically like Ithkul from MOO3. No diplomacy possible, you hate everyone, and everyone hates you, but you get military related bonuses. Speaking of... in Utopia you can make your pops eat aliens too, just like Ithkul.

Otherwise the Leviathans story pack wouldn't make much sense for this civic and I don't want to miss my Ministry of Culture. :p
The Leviathans story pack also features, hem, Leviathans. And also the War in Heaven.
It's a good thing that not all kinds of empires get access to the same possibilities. It would make no sense for Fanatical Purifiers to hate everyone else in the galaxy, but your alien ministry of alien culture...

Let's say it this way, the building is called "Ministry of Culture" and not "Ministry of Alien Culture", just because you want to fight all the Aliens... doesn't mean you have no culture at all. It should at least be possible to get a Ministry of Culture via a later tech (after the destruction of the enclaves if only hostile contact is possible).

Furthermore some supremacist empires can feel superior to other aliens because of their culture (if they think their culture is just awesome.), that's why they should have a way to get this building in the long-run.
