So, right now Stellaris represent this realistically, and AI deals with It adequately.
trying to conquer and genocide everybody should be horrifically difficult.

Please, do not ask to change that. Stellaris should stay realistic at least at representing that people don`t want to get killed. Fanatic Purifiers already has enormously unlogical buff to fire rate just because they are EEEEEEEEEEVIL!!!1!!1111
Yes, without the effort the success of killing them all would be far less rewarding!

I love the Chrono Trigger reference, though. :)

Well, a good example of Fanatic Purifiers in real life would be Nazi Germany.
Not everyone else banded against them.
In fact, they even had allies.
Which raises the question of the inability of FPs to have diplomatic interaction, because even them would probably need to make concessions with other empires in order to reach their purifying goals...

Their allies were the people not on the "make room for living space" list. In fact WW2 managed to unite the capitalist democratic west with the soviet union of all people. Precisely because of the enemy they faced.

In Stellaris FPs believe everyone but themselves must eventually die.

The big red blob am I.
The big purple blob (leage of Cormassa) is in a defensive pact with me
THe big pink blob is in a defensive pact with me.
The Big Orange blob is in a federation with teh medium purple blob (Kel-Azaan Republic) and the tiny red blob (the Hiffnar Regime, wich was a big red blob before i smashed it)
The medium blue-ish blob is in a defensive pact with my allies (but not me)

This has been the political scenario from teh beginning of the game, literaly.

So here is a tip that /might/ help. Enable advanced AI and try to get a defensive pact with them. It is what saved me from being obliterated early on.

The year is 2465. I usually have more then half a galaxy in 2300. Right now I find the game definetly boring because AI is not programmed to even try to win, it just colonises a little and sometimes does defensive pacts... That, combined with the fact that AI cheats makes the game really dull for me, even with factions and fulfilling their demands (kinda easy).

Have you tried deliberately not exploring the galaxy? In my Fanatic Purifiers run I just avoided meeting new aliens until I had fully annexed the ones I knew of already, meaning that the AI couldn't form federations against me until random events told the rest of the galaxy of my existence.

Edit: and by that point it was far too late. :D

I proposed something like that on Page one :)

It can be tricky to get over the "explorer instinct" as a player.
But as purger and conquerer, communications really only work to ones disadvantage beyond a certain degree.
