I haven't played a purifier before but I would like to say that I have used through war to vassalize other empires with my spiritualist government in one playthrough and again as my materilist in another playthrough which is on going. Plus I have used war before to vassalize other governments before banks/utopia came out

Vassalizing through war as Non-Fanatic Purifier? Not an issue. "War is the continuation of politics by other means" - Carl von Clausewitz.

Vassalizing as Fanatic Purifier? Yeah, I see a issue here.
Fan Puries can not do Diplomacy. And a overlord/subject relationship is a form of Diplomacy for me.
So it propably should not be possible for a Fanatic Purifier to vassalize, even through war.

yea, but he was seemingly also having trouble on non FP runs
Actually the other runs went fine, it was just a comment that they also ended up my empire in it's quadrant surrounded by a federation enemy in 3 directions.

Here I am fighting as the Humans.. Purging all Xenos. All the empires in my game have over -1000 relations with me. The unbidden wiped out 3 empires in the top part of the galaxy. More varied unbidden came and they annihilated each other and I came in and swooped the last gate. After that it has been a race between me and the federation to colonize the now barren worlds.

And in the picture.. This is the third defensive war between me and the federation. First ended in white peace, second I humiliated the awakened empire and now the third war started and I do not like my odds... :D
Fanatic Huuuumans!.png

EDIT: Lol and I just now realized that you can pick the fanatical purifier civic.. So I guess this is not a FP campaign... :p Well I've been purging everyone who is not human anyway.

I would be upset at the AI if they sat there like sheep allowing genocidal madmen to pick them off one by one by one.

Its actually quite easy doable if you are very aggressive. Put star ports at every colony and have a flexible force flying around, make note of where they will attack and use stations to snare them towards the port. I barely had mining and science stations at the start to prevent the funneling. If you do that at the beginning you can purge at least 4 species at a very quick note. Do declare war on them though, do not let them advance beyond cruiser level. Once that is done, its just a matter of snowballing.

Only downside is that the annihilation bombardment is useless and the unity hit.

038f1d89021309755ac74a921deecce6.jpg

Here is the screen after destroying the unbidden, purging the fallen empires and destroying the two federated star empires 's army. its just a matter of mopping up now.

Tip: tech requirement and unity becomes massive, so purge helps you with that. For tech, wait for exploring the systems until you have adopted the science tree with the Planetary Survey Corps. That way, the science will snowball immensely at late tech

So i've played about 5 games today with fanatic purifiers. 600 star galaxy, 20 empires, no advanced starts, with FE's.

In all of them, I've managed to get a toehold (some bigger than others) before getting smashed by a giant federation made up of half the galaxy, who have at least five times more fleet size than I do.

In my other non-purifier games I've also ended up surrounded by hostile federations, it doesn't feel like empire vs empire, but empire vs federation, and the only way I can survive is if another group of enemies has teamed up but attacked the federation first.

My fanatic purifier "playthrough" began without that civic. I started the game as a xenophobe/pacifist/spiritualist so I could get the psychic stuff ASAP. I was actually a part of a federation for a while.

Then they started asking for my shiny rocks.

I told them no.

They kept asking.

And asking.

And asking.

Slowly my pacificism went away, replaced by militarism, and when those little wombat looking freaks showed up to ask to borrow a cup of zro for the 394857802345428057th time, I knew the galaxy had to be purged.

Seriously though, once you've grown past the need for allies, the purifier civic is kind of a no-brainer, and OH MY GOD THE DIPLOMATIC SILENCE IS GLORIOUS.

There is something quite relatable about purging the galaxy after going insane from the constant requests to open migration borders.

Insane dom victory by 2320

Lol. "Git gud" indeed, but to you my friend. Changing your ethos from Fanatic Xenophobe/Militarist disables the "Fanatic Purifiers" Civic.
Your empire is Fanatic Militarist/Xenophobe. I suppose you embraced the militarist faction. Your Civic has absolutely no effect.
Real purifiers keep being purifiers from start 'til the end.

Nope.

Also still rocking the massive fire rate bonus and all non-purifier options are disabled.

Well, a good example of Fanatic Purifiers in real life would be Nazi Germany.
Not everyone else banded against them.
In fact, they even had allies.
Which raises the question of the inability of FPs to have diplomatic interaction, because even them would probably need to make concessions with other empires in order to reach their purifying goals...

As before, AI fanatic purifiers tend to get smashed, though every once in a while one breaks out. This is due to their habit of declaring rivalries with everyone around them, rather than picking on just one.

That said, I actually haven't seen a lot of federations compared to before. Civs have to take the Diplomatic route, a lot don't, and the "war type" can be a big issue. I actually in two games, like an idiot, took federation and discovered no one close to me would join federation because of differing war types.

If you help us kill everyone else, we will kill you last. If you don't, we will kill you now.
And that is clear cut Diplomacy with Aliens. Wich FP's aren't supposed to do.
A bit like the FE leadership, they are bit to stupid to understand that aliens could be a Danger.
Even if the Leadership is Smarter, thier people would never go for it. Right now FP shortcuts 4/6 of the Supremacist Faction Issues with a Flat +20 bonus. We can always add "no Vassals" to the list for FP's.

Hitler didn't think that everyone who wasn't a German needed to die.

FPs think everyone who isn't a member of the primary species needs to die.
I would put Nazi-Germany as a form Militarist and Xenophobe, certainly. But not fanatical Purifiers. The Italians. The Japanese. All were considered equal to some degree.
On average they were mor the Slaving type.

CoM might be a good approximation of both Nazi German and the early Roman Republic. While still having FP potential.

The way I see it, Japan, Germany (and to some degree the USSR) were Hegemonic Imperialists. Working together against the world. FP can not do that. All non FP Empires can.

Hitler didn't think that everyone who wasn't a German needed to die.

FPs think everyone who isn't a member of the primary species needs to die.
Nazi Germany was probably about as close as you'd get to a FP in human history out of any major society.

It's kind of telling about how insane fanatical purifiers are that the Nazis; who demanded the slavery or extermination of: Slavs, Queer people, Jews, Liberal or Socialist activists, Roma, Asians (Hitler in his unpublished sequel to Mein Kampf planned to betray whomever was his Asian ally once Europe was conquered and America was defeated and placed under German hegemony to conclude his race war against the asiatics with the intention of exterminating the "asiatic hordes" at their source), Blacks, the Disabled, etc etc are still not quite extreme enough to be fanatical purifiers.

Though you don't really have to look very hard for a very famous example of fanatical purifiers.

Because let's face it, when you're playing as fanatical purifiers you're playing as diet Daleks.

Diet because most fanatical purifiers probably don't want to destroy every single possible universe and every single possible timeline down to the very fundamental forces of reality to satisfy their omnicidal bloodlust.
