I'm going to guess that making your prepatent species a subspecies of your main race is an unintended exploit. If it is, and if it gets patched (neither of which is certain), then I think it'll be more comparable to a regular assimilator (probably stronger early, weaker mid-game, and stronger endgame with Synth ascension). ATM though... yeah it's pretty OP.

Fanatic purifiers don't care about that silly building that converts pops, they just commit mass genocide and reuse the leftover corpses. FP necrophages has a special purge type that converts the purged pops without a building.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is amazing. I didn't realize. Brb buying necroids to live out my necrontyr dreams

They would have to rewrite how same-species checks work, which would impact a LOT of things. Seems more likely they would restrict Necrophage from FP, since prepatents is a core part of the origin. However, they have a special purge type, so... working as intended?

They could probably write a hard-coded check: IF you have FP AND Necrophage, then your second species must have a different name and/or portrait from your primary.

I think they could just have a blanket rule for all species/secondary species mechanics. Having both species be the same is not mechanics working as intended.

This is such an exploit :p.

Other then if you use this exploit, I think it's strictly weaker then normal purifiers, as you can only meaningfully expand your population via conquest, given your huge -75% growth malus.

You'd be looking at 2 growth from robots and ~1.6ish growth from your main species along with ~20 more starting pops. I don't think it would be completely awful, just an incredibly rush-centric faction.

I think they could just have a blanket rule for all species/secondary species mechanics. Having both species be the same is not mechanics working as intended.
It's been a thing for a long time with syncretic evolution.

Alternatively, just have them start without the secondary species? they'd all be purged within a few years anyway, so just have them start as the primary species

Update:

Can confirm that the AI is pretty dang ferocious with this build. Force it in your games if you want a true snowballing AI empire to contend with. This wasn't even an advanced start. They just finished a colossus.

Just to note that regular necrophages also have access to necrophage purge, though interesting to hear that fanatical purifier necrophage combo actually works since I was worried about lack of growth(though yeah robots fixing that makes sense) Edit: Oh wait, this was with making prepatent a subspecies <_< Kinda makes me wonder if it would work without subspecies

(I do think that lithoid necrophage combination is bit cheesy though I admit that I'm just little bit sad necrophages aren't limited to necroids since I kinda liked idea of necroids having unique mechanic for how weird they are xD)

With a bit of playing around, I think I have the best setup.
Main species
1605102010764.png
Prepatent subspecies
1605102306883.png
.

Civics Fan Purifier/Mining Guilds Ethics Militarist/Fan Xenophobe.

Mining Guilds/Industrious and Ingenious combined with invading the primitives gives you an explosive start, and clearing 5 tile blockers to get 5 new pops early on also contributes a lot. The trick is to use all that unity you get to beeline not for Supremacy but for Adaptability's +1 building slot bonus. With that you suddenly have enough room on your planets for 3-5 more alloy foundaries than anyone else, and you have the minerals to fuel them. This easily doubles if not triples the navy you can field. Obviously just ignore bureacracy/research entirely until you've defeated at least 2 empires and absorbed their dudes, and make sure to disable most of their newly conquered buildings to get them working the energy and minerals you need to sustain increasingly large navies. If you let those pops promote to specialist you've basically ruined your game. You'll get tons of unity for this and be able to fill out supremacy quickly, Switch on Fortify the Border to get more starbase cap when you need it, I was pushing 160 corvettes by 2230 and beat a GA Advanced Start empire that I didn't even realize was Advanced Start until I took their homeworld and realized it had 80 pops on it.

EDIT: Be sure to check that the right pop (non-necrophage) is always the one growing. It seems to sometime pick the wrong one for the homeworld at the very start of the game and for new just-founded colonies. Just flick it to forced growth of the non-necrophage and then un-force it and it will reset to the non-necrophage and stay there.

The species screen should look like this. You need the same portrait and name to be a subspecies. It's impossible to purge your own species, including any subspecies, they are all forced into full citizenship.

If you do it wrong it will look like this, two entirely separate species:

It’s broken,
I basically did this, just different traits. It prevented me from purging my own prepatent species, but two things occurred:

1. when necropurging xeno pops it made them into my prepatent species, not my necrophage???
2. I can’t built the necrophage building so I can’t make more necrophages. Is this intended?

Number 1 definitely seems to be a bug. I was able to research the upgraded necrophage building but not build it.

you aren't supposed to be able to build the building, it is intentionally excluded for fanatic purifiers in the script, since the intention is that you'll never have anyone capable of working the job

edit: The first point is indeed a bug (although from looking at the event, it should currently be capable of making them into either the prepatent and necophage species, not just the prepatent?) because the event to necrophage via jobs chooses a random template of your primary species with that template needing the necrophage trait, whereas the purge will just choose any template of the primary species.

I believe if you want to make the necrophage species then you want to make sure the necrophage species is the only other species on the planet besides the ones being purged. Don't have the prepatent species there.

This doesn't seem to work in 3.0(.1) anymore as you can't seem to be able to pick a prepatent species with the same portrait as your main species when you're going necrophage.
This is a pretty big nerf to FP necros as your pop growth is really gimped when you're not conquering, also going FP lithoid doesn't look really doable at all.

actually, i think the necro fanatic purifier is the only viable purifier in 3.0?
Early game sucks, lower own growth and worker output, but once in mid-late game, other FP growth stops with the growth stagnation, while necro could still get new pops with the necro purge
but i think the current 3.0 is a huge nerf to any type of empires that need own growth as 0 use of conquered pops.

A Dev stated in another thread this was not supposed to happen and was fixed with 3.0.
No idea why FP necrphages are allowed in the first place then.
