Roleplaying as a Fanatic Pacifist empire is more difficult than I expected and the main problem seem to be Federations. Early in the game things seemed to be going well and I even did stuff like canceling an encroaching colony to avoid conflicts.
Although I signed a number of defensive pacts for the first 50 or so years everything went as planned and not a single war was fought involving my empire.

Suddenly Federations started forming everywhere breaking most treaties (one existed even earlier but got stomped by other AI empires). There had been a lot of wars and some of the early powers vanished(xenophobe seems to be a shitty trait for the AI to have).
I became an associate with the only Federation which had no "differing war philosophy" debuff. They were busy liberating xenophobe isolationist thus I avoided joining at first(they had crushed the only Fanatic Purifier around earlier). However my reputation with the other main Federations of warmongers was declining rapidly(no more treaties except migration/research to keep the border friction in check.)

Because of that I decided to join the peaceful(at least in ethos FS/P, FX/P and FX/Mat) Federation around 90 years in.
Now two members(FS/P and FX/Mat) want to go to war all the time and I got a -100 opinion debuff with both of them by 2310.

I just ignored the requests so far. Does voteing no(got an even worse debuff iirc) prevent request spam? The wargoals are always liberating planets for them and ceding planets to our vassals/protectorates.

Long story short: my question is would getting rid of my vassals make the Federation respect my war philosophy setting?

I mean, you can vote yes, you don't have to go to war yourself. You just need to let them liberate other factions, it's all they want.

It's worth noting that at the moment the main advantage of pacifism is in allowing your country a decent peacetime economic bonus(via happiness buff) which allows you to stock up (and tech up faster)for short wars. As a result there's nothing wrong with occasional liberation wars, especially if you let your federation do all the heavy lifting.

That is pretty much it. Pacifist in Peacetime and with room grows faster then anyone else.
With migration treaties they can outright drain the allies of pops via Migration.

However, I think we have to wait for the 1.5 Update before Pacifists become remotely capable of fullfilling any win Conditions. I noticed that with 1.5, Pacifist get thier long needed update and can actually be a danger for other empires:

Hmm I must admit I did not think of that. I guess I will try that if releaseing vassals does not work. It's time to say goodbye to happiness ;).

Yeah I know I just wanted to roleplay as an empire which does not want to get involved in offensive wars but still seeks allies because the galaxy is dark and full of terrors.
