As always, I try to make a point to find "new blood" to pass this award on to whenever it comes into my hands. Usually that means finding some eager up-and-comer, but today it's going to someone who already has a bit of a presence here in AARland -- enough of one, in fact, that I'm rather surprised they haven't gotten this award before.

Therefore, it is my honor and privilege to be the first to name @eoncommander as our new Fan of the Week! Come on down and claim your prize!

Thank you so much! Funny story - you are not actually the first to name me Fan of the Week; I declined to accept this award once before, in December 2019, on the grounds that I wasn't really much of a fan/commenter at the time. This time, though, I am truly honored. As someone who more than occasionally struggles with social anxiety, it means a lot to know my contributions are valued in the community.

Thank you @eoncommander - I don't know if I've received this award before but I certainly do feel that warm glow of approval. Either that or it's the rum kicking in...

Thank you all for your good wishes, @DensleyBlair , @Nikolai , @Cora Giantkiller , @Wraith11B , @Specialist290 , @stnylan ,, @Bullfilter , @The Number 9 , @Idhrendur . Especially so for @Midnite Duke, for reasons I'll get into below.

It is of course easy to comment on @BigBadBob 's 'For All We Have And Are',, because it is a good, solid, well-thought-out and well-written work, but I'd like to get in a little deeper.

I have long held (almost 20 years now) that while 'real' authors are paid in money, we in AARLand get paid in comments. Not in views - but by a reader being moved enough to actually tell the author what they liked, or didn't, or to ask a question... in other words, by tangible proof of interest - by comment.

Yes, I have read and not been moved to comment. Yes, I too have left a simple, 'Good update!' But I learned from my own writing that the comment that tells me what the reader liked is pure silver - and the comment that asks a question, or anticipates and extrapolates from your writing, is pure gold.

So please, when you read - comment, and if possible say something specific. It is the only pay we AARLand authors get, and it means the world to the author who gets it. A 'view' is window-shopping; a comment is a purchase.

I'd rather have cash, of course - something has to pay the mojito tab - but a good, detailed comment feels almost as good.
