THREAD QUESTIONS:

1) Which great houses are present at start in Imperator Rome?

2) What are their family trees/genealogy?

3) Which dynasties can we expect that Paradox will give more attention to in future updates?

Any good books to buy about the ancestors/descendents of Alexander and his generals?

I found this video on Youtube that is about the family trees for Alexander the Great and the Diadochi dynasties:

According to the Imperator wiki, the members of the Diadochi dynasties will have different unique blood traits that are inherited patrilineally:

Blood of Antigonus
  • Prominence: +20
  • Finesse: +1
  • Aggressive Expansion Change: −0.1
  • Fort Defense: +10%
Antigonus Monopthalmus was a loyal Satrap of Alexander, who rose to power after defeating Perdiccas, soon after Alexander's death. The very first of the Diadochi to proclaim himself King, he was supported by his loyal family, and established a good reputation amongst smaller, less capable Greek nations.

Blood of Antipatros
  • Prominence: +20
  • Charisma: +1
  • Build Cost: −10%
  • Monthly Legitimacy: +0.05
A great friend of Alexander, Antipater was responsible for safeguarding Macedonia during Alexander's great campaigns. His loyalty to Alexander, and domineering attitude towards the lesser Greek states was tempered by his son, Cassander, whose contempt of Alexander was no secret, and whose legacy included the founding and restoration of many great cities.

Blood of the Argeads
  • Prominence: +20
  • Martial: +1
  • Aggressive Expansion Impact: −10%
  • Monthly Legitimacy: +0.05
Alexander wept when he heard from Anaxarchus that there was an infinite number of worlds; and when his friends asked him if any accident had befallen him, returned this answer: "Do you not think it a matter worthy of lamentation that when there is such a vast multitude of them, we have not yet conquered one?"

Blood of the Lagidae
  • Prominence: +20
  • Zeal: +1
  • Wrong Culture-Group Happiness: +15%
  • Research Points: +5%
Having grown up alongisde Alexander, Ptolemy Soter of the Lagidae, was amongst the first of the seven Somatophylakes. After the partition of Babylon, he settled in Egypt, ruling with a fair hand; despite the vast population of differing cultures. His long-standing dynasty was regarded as highly influential in the patronage of art, philosophy, and science.

Blood of Lysimachus
  • Prominence: +20
  • Martial: +1
  • Diplomatic Reputation: +1
  • Execute Cost: −25%
Once a close friend of Alexander, and one of the legendary Somatophylakes; Lysimachus was a brutal yet cunning general, whose grasp of the tense diplomatic situation between the Diadochi was second to none.

Blood of Seleucus
  • Prominence: +20
  • Finesse: +1
  • Change Governor Policy Cost: −25%
  • Monthly Corruption: −5%
Unlike the other Diadochi, Seleucus was a person of only mediocre importance during Alexander's campaigns. After a string of victories and defeats, Seleucus finally established his domain with the help of Ptolemy Soter, and embarked on a campaign to regain control of the eastern parts of Alexander's empire. Surrounded on every side by titanic powers, Seleucus was, by necessity, a ruthless and cunning leader.

On Youtube I looked at a playthrough of Suionia (the Sweds). It seems that the legendary dynasty of the Ynglings was not included in the game. Their family tree is presented here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yngling

---------------

Is the gens Julia in the game? (The gens Julia was the patrician family that Julius Caesar belonged to.)

I don't know about books specifically for Alexanders decedents, but "Alexander The Great" by Robin Lane Fox is a decent book on Alexander. "Alexander The Great" by Philip Freeman is a semi novelized account of Alexander. If you want to read up on the Peloponnesian war, you can get an English translation of Thucydides account, who was around at the time of the war, translated by Martin Hammond. Although not exactly what you asked for, they're good books if you're interested in that region. :)

Edit: On audible you can get a lecture series by Kenneth W. Harl called "Alexander the Great and the Macedonian Empire." He does go into events after Alexanders death too, and does talk about some of the wars of the Diadochi. (He also has one on the Peloponnesian war).

Cassander's children *should* have it.

I haven't studied it in depth, but I think only children born after the start of the game will have it. Or, at least it seems that the heir didn't have it in the slight bit I've seen. Meaning, I'm guessing it can die out quite easily? Since his wife can pass it to all children, I also wonder if those children can pass it in the same way.

While not huge, and may cause stability issues, it would be interesting to have each bloodline in your nation. At the least, getting Alexander's bloodline on your ruler would be fun.

Paghalay: Thanks for the suggestions!

The trait Blood of the Argeads (from the wiki):
Given to Thessalonike Argead, wife of Basileus Cassander of Macedon, at game start, and inherited by her descendants born after game start. Called argeads in game code.

Uhhh That doesn't leave much, if any, time for passing it on if it only passes to children born after game start.

Right. Hence why I mentioned I think the bloodline will more often than not die out unless I'm missing something. I wonder if it's even possible to invite a kings family into your kingdom? Or, can you assassinate Cassander and marry his wife? If you start as Cassander and manager to have a son with her, then he would be third or forth in line for the throne as well, making it annoying at best to put him in power.

I'm sure when the game is released someone will find a way to take advantage of the bloodline, but it will likely be a random, gamey method that is not enjoyable or fun. One aspect of Paradox games that has become annoying is all the little "cool" bits they had, but are completely not fun to achieve. Stellaris more than others, but each game has a few of these aspects.

That being said, Alexander's bloodline really shouldn't be in the game at all, so it's more of a bonus. What is most annoying is that there seems to be no way to create your own bloodline.

Surely there has to be someone else, somewhere, that is a relative of his that they can give the trait to? Just to make it a little bit more plausible that one can gain it without outright cheating.

I once read that Paeonia may have a character with the bloodline, but I've never seen anyone look into it. However, historically Alexander's family was killed prior to the start of the game and only his sister was alive. So, while related, she is not a direct decedent of his either, and all male heirs of his bloodline are dead at the games start as far as I understand, historically speaking.

Blood of the Argead? There's a living Argead in the game!?
Alexanders half sister, daugher of Philip II is alive at game start, although she was only young when Alexander died. I can't think of anyone else, since Alexanders full sister was killed by Antiginous in about 308bc.
