Does anyone but me find it a bit odd that "Bonde"(lit. peasant) is a noble family?

For those of you who do not know enough Swedish to read the article, suffice it to say that the noble family of Bonde was an ancient and most distinguished one.

I don't know many ancient and most distinguished Swedish peasants but I'll take your word for it Doomdark.

"Bonde" does not literally mean peasant. It is closer in meaning to the English word farmer, and many prominent farmers went on to become nobles.

Well... Bernadotte isn't exactly a Swedish surname, but they have been the royal family for over 200 years now
IMHO that a polish noble can become king over England is one thing that makes HttT great!

Indeed! It's only realistic. "Foreign" dynasties have always been common.

Some more examples, apart from those already mentioned:

- Bourbon in Spain and in Naples.
- Habsburg in Austria, Spain, Burgundy, and elsewhere (being originally Swiss).
- Pfalz in Sweden.
- Holstein-Gottorp in Sweden.
...etc etc etc.
