I am playing with Argentina and actually i have a democracy and legalized all parties. Argentina heavily depends on inmigration, and i want a ruling party with good citizeship policy, but....i have a party system (dont know if it is the correct traslation to english, i am playing spanish version) of unique party. What does this mean? I cannot change in any way the policies of my government, but i want to do. It takes no sense to give voting rigths to everyone if there is only a party to vote.

I remember some dictatorship governments (in real world, i say), that called themselves democracies and holded elections with only one party. Exactly the same situation that i have in my game. Does this means that i am playing with a fake democracy?

Argentina has more available parties at this time. I checked the list in Rafiki site.

The question is. What can I do to change the party system of my country?

I don't know.
Just finished a GC game as Argentina myself ("Don't cry for me..." :rolleyes: ) and I instituted all liberal political reforms. I got a democracy with two parties :
- partido federale (conservative)
- partido liberale (guess what...)
I was getting huge flows of immigrants, but only from Germany, for the first 10 years or so, and then each time some German state was at war. I also got a few south Italian soldiers (go figure) coming in at some time.
Still during the whole period I had over 80 % conservative, and thus the liberal party never came into power.
I also had some event that made me become a presidential dictatorship again at some point, had to do all reforms again :( , still two parties and conservatives ruling.
I also made the "good health care" from the start (very cheap at that time), and no other social reform.

At the end in 1920, after annexing Brunei (I recommend it), Atjeh and Hawai, taking two provinces in Mexico (that made me go to war with mighty USA for about 25 years) and making the territories south of me, a set of Pacific islands and about 15 provinces in central Africa colonies, I had about 18.000.000 people, 33% platinean (national culture, thank you assimilation) and 30% north or south germans.

The one thing I liked is that by turning a couple of huge pops (immigration was concentrated) into craftmen/clerks, I was getting 2.5 research point :eek: a month, even finished all possible researches, by trading, before the end.

it's one-party system in English. You can write an event to do this or change it in the savegame. I think it should also be possible in-game but I don't know how. Might be something with: voting rights, allow all parties. btw. are you sure you have a democracy or do you have a HMS government?

Yes, it is a democracy, but one-party. I think it is a combination that would be forbidden (next patch?).

I will try to modify my savegame.

In my game i made social reforms (six in total) in the first five years, and that worked fairly well. But inmigration suddenly stopped and Argentina badly needs those unhappy germans :) . In fact i saw some inmigrants leave my country just after arrive :mad: .

Maybe they didnot leave but just moved to another state, merged in a bigger POP or were assimilated (i.e. turned into platineans).

Never experienced any emigration as Argentina.

Also, what was said about factories in construction is true.Get freedom of trade ASAP and build a couple of lumber mills/ steel factories. You will have TONS of craftmen pouring in, even before the factories are completed.

Also, social reforms just have little impact at the beginning. With just "good health care" and all political reforms on I was just the top immigration country (after the US of course) in the world.
Other social reforms will just cripple your budget, especially pensions and limited working hours.

That is odd. The event that makes you democratic when you have the right reforms should also make you multi-party:
Code:
event = {
	id = 23116
	random = no

	name = "EVT_REFORM"
	desc = "EVT_REFORM_DESC"
	style = 0

	action_a = {
        	name = "OK"
		command = { type = constitution  which = democracy }
		command = { type = executive_designation which = parliamentarism }
		command = { type = party_system  which = multi_party }
	}
}
Does it say multi-party but you only have one party, or does it say one-party? If the former only one party is active. If the latter try firing that event (f12 type event 23116) .
