Fallout 4 will be released before Hearts of Iron 4

That thought just crossed my mind. i know the two games have no connection, but when you think about when fallout was announced, and how long we've been waiting for hearts of iron, it kind of makes me feel bad.
I wish Hearts of Iron 4 was announced today, with the game in it's current stage. imagine the excitement!
the extra time the devs would have to do dev diaries and answer questions, and do press.

i wonder how the devs feel thinking back to their decision to announce HOI4 way back then?
Will they do things differently in the future?
I supposed the fact EvW was canceled may have pressured them to announce HOI4 asap to fill the void.

Bethesda has a track record of announcing releases and following through on the dates. Maybe because they wait till later in the development stage? Unsure...but I would like to see gaming companies get a bit more accurate then years apart. Many companies do, do it..however PI at least from the mess I've seen isn't the best at that. Small thing just kinda makes there word look unreliable anytime they say anything...makes me take the don't buy it until its on steam.

I don't really understand what your getting at here. The devs have stated more than once that they wished they had announced the game later and that they will for future games. They cant exactly reverse time now.

But yeah I'm excited for both Fallout 4 and HOI4!

If it makes you feel better, I think they announced Killzone 2 four years before release, or something crazy like that, and then there was Duke Nukem Forever, so while HoI4 is taking longer than expected, some games have left people hanging for a good deal longer. That said, am a big fan of announcement and then release 6 or so months later.

Yeah, the practice varies, though I usually like hearing about a game roughly six months prior to release. Any longer than that and I ignore it because usually, they get delayed considerably and also I'm not restricted to just one or two games, so there's always something else going on in the meantime I want to put effort into. Any shorter than that and I'm usually caught by surprise and don't have time to get the information on the game!

I think it's unfair to compare EA and Paradox, they both have different histories, group structures and things to deliver. EA clearly learn from their mistakes and aren't just this Big Bad looking to generate negative publicity and fleece customers.

Paradox started off very small and have grown slowly to finally be in a position where they can choose to develop slowly, they are now in a fantastic position, but post HOI3 release their reputation was completely trashed, they've worked very hard to build that up and completely changed development/release ethos, they left EU4 in the oven for months just to ensure a smooth release and it paid off. But they have to be sitting on some well balanced books to have the luxury of waiting to release a game!

Haha, this post needs a 'sympathies' button - although, to be fair, buying a Bethesda title on release is similar to buying an 'old Paradox' title on day one - odds are there'll be a fair few bugs in it. At least by the time you get to play it, they'll have patched out the worst of 'em.
