Hi, trading to increase a FE's opinion seems to be bugged. The supposed bonus shown before accepting the trade is not applied afterwards.
Before:
20170215203852_1.jpg

20170215203858_1.jpg

After:
20170215203905_1.jpg

Is this supposed to work in a way that you can only boost the opinion through certain trait/ethos/policies?

You can no longer placate a fallen empire by sending them gifts, IIRC.

I don't think so, they are still happy to get free stuff from you, but they just don't like you any more (or hate you any less) than they did previously because of it.

Nah, it's the biggest scam in the game xD Also, positive requests only happen once in a while, or it could never happen. And I don't see the point of displaying a potential trade bonus if it remains at 0... <.<'

does it actually show a relationship bonus somewhere? Otherwise the big "15" is more of a willingness to accept the trade rather than a mark of their resulting relationship with you...

The 15 number is the estimated bonus opinion you will have after the trade is done, not the trade willingness which is the % next to it. It works with the regular AI Empires, but not with Fallen Empires', even though the same number is displayed as with other AI Empires.

I don't think that's the case, as that isn't the value you end up getting when you trade with the regular AI either. I've also never noticed that percentage before, huh.

Of course it's not, it depends on trade willingness... And there are a few ones that even tend to entirely depreciate your goods. And my point is the Holy Guardian FE's trade willingness is not at 0%, so it should still have given me an opinion modifier from trade.

Fair enough. I always just assumed that that was the trade willingness number lol, it was the far more obvious one of the two. Also, I think way back in 1.0 it used to be the trade willingness, either that, or it was pointless, because I'm pretty sure you didn't get to bribe other empires yet in 1.0.

I just started to play in 1.4, but I only know that you used to have embassy instead of trust, and people used that to increase opinion with AI Empires, not only FEs ones.

To the OP,
With FEs this is correct, especially Non Awakened, as they simply don't CARE
Also the 15 isn't an opinion bonus, it represents Trad Willingness. If it's 0 or less, they will tell you to screw it

Trade willingness is how highly they value what we offer them as our half of the trade, it's in the tooltip, not an actual willingness to trade with you.

ie, if you offer someone with 100% trade willingness 100 minerals it might give you 10 points in trade. If you offer 100 minerals to someone with 80% trade willingness they would give you 8. You then ask for things from them which will subtract from the points you got from your offer. If the net result is positive they'll accept the trade, if the net result is more than 1 an opinion modifier is applied equal to the points value of the trade (-1 IIRC) for giving them a good deal.

But fallen empires don't really care, so they don't get the opinion modifier. Because they're fallen empires.

EDIT: there are other hidden factors modifying how much they value what you offer btw, it's just that if there were two identical empires with identical planets, fleets, stockpiles, leaders, etc, etc, etc, but different trade modifiers they'd value your offer differently. And yes, I pulled those numbers out of my ass, no empire will value 100 minerals at 10 points ofc.

Are you actually telling me whether I give them resources or strategic ones they won't care in the slightest? There is no favorable trade deal with them even it displays that way? I don't care whether or not they are way stronger in raw power than us, I'm just stating facts the game is showing me.
Please don't tell me that they have a hidden Fanatical Purifier trade willingness in themselves :)

They generally won't trade with you, or care about gifts you try and give them. Unfortunately.

That number isn't actually there to tell you "you will get X opinion from this trade deal" it's there so that you know how much more needs to be added to your side or how much more can be added to theirs and still have them accept the trade deal. It happens to also tell you how much opinion bonus you'll get if you are trading with non fallen empires, which is useful, and a warning to tell you that fallen empires are too arrogant to care about your piddling offerings would also be useful, but the indicator isn't there for that purpose.

EDIT: and yes, I am telling you that, it is a favorable trade deal, but they won't care and it will never affect their opinion of you.

Well, the way game displays it is kinda misleading to me. It should be fixed somehow.

True, clarifying it would be an improvement, maybe some red text if you are trading with a fallen empire saying "this favorable trade deal/gift will not affect the fallen empire's opinion of you at all", I suggest starting a suggestion thread in the suggestion forum.
