I am playing a Driven Assimilator empire. I have purged the Hive Mind and assimilated the rest of the galaxy. There is nothing left but the Fallen Empire. The Contacts Menu states the Fallen Empire's fleet is Pathetic compared to mine, but their technology is Overwhelming. I want to assimilate the Fallen Empire, but am afraid their technology will just melt my ships. Do I dare attack them? I thought about teching up for a few years, but my Empire Sprawl is 1899, while my Administrative Capacity is only 90. My science is over 16k, but have a 542% penalty due to being over the admin cap. I don't know if I can catch up tech wise.

Any advice? Much appreciated!

Scan their ships to see what kind of tech they have on them. They prob just have a bunch of repeatables done.

Every FE has 10x all of the repeatable techs. So they've got 50% bonuses to every aspect of their ships. If you have about 50 - 100% more fleet power than the FE, you should do okay with inferior tech. Just bum rush them with mass and there's no way they'll kill everything. Also, FEs don't produce any new ships at all unless they become an Awakened Empire, so feel free to chip away over the course of a couple of wars if needs be.

What a stupid war. The AI didn't even try to defend themselves. They just began attacking my systems and left theirs undefended. I then had to chase them down though all my systems, Much more lame than fun.. I was expecting some sort of grand battle and was disappointed. I like the game, for the most part, but sometimes it is just dumb.

* I guess it was part my fault. I didn't notice I hadn't built a machine assembly plant in one of the bordering fortress worlds.

quick tip for the tech to fleet power thing. if they have equivalent fleet power but overwhelming tech yes they will likely shred your ships i have tried. at inferior they will still wreck your fleet and leave you with scraps but you can take them head on. at pathetic you likely have enough fleet power to bypass the tech disadvantage and have minimal losses.
KEY point this is with the understanding that you have max rank ship techs and have started on the repeatable's. also if you target their fleets separately you can try at equivalent.

There's a number of aspects to dealing with ancients. You can actually kill them off with equal or less fleet power and less techs. It requires manipulation of your fleets, both what they have equipped and what kind of ships you're using, as well as strategy.

So far, every game I've played, the ancients on console have fleets of about 100-120k. Generally 2-3 of said fleets. Usually 2 but I've seen some with 3. Difficulty doesn't seem to make a difference from my experience, but I haven't exactly taken notes just going from memory.

Most of the time you only need to be able to kill one of those fleets at a time. It is rare that the ancients actually combine them together or use them in unison. That means you don't need a 200+k fleet to take on an ancient 200k-ish fleet, you can go with half and just take the fleets one at a time.

Let them send a fleet at you first. You can get defence bonuses depending on what traditions you've acquired that will help the battle. The Harmony tree has a pretty sweet defence bonus. This reduces further the strength of the fleets you need to take them out. You also get the benefit of a station backing your ships up.

Finally, look at what their weapons are. If they are going hardcore on anti-shield weapons, then drop your shields and stack up your armour. Choose your own weapons for the battle you intend to fight. Will you be jumping on top of them or letting them jump on top of you, or will you be trying to hit them from a distance to do as much damage as possible before they get a shot off?

I have killed ancients who had 330k fleet power when I had only 140k-ish fleet power and was pathetic in research in comparison to them. I haven't always done it in a single war, but usually 2 is enough. Generally I use corvettes and battleships. A corvette swarm to distract and pick off damaged ships and soak up some fire, and a few battleship fleets raining down with Giga Cannons and Kinetic and Neutron Launchers from a distance. With good evasion, the corvettes tend to lose a lot of ships but not all that many, and they do a good job of letting the battleships hammer the enemy unimpeded.
