Fallen empire debris question

So, i just attacked a fallen empire for the first time. But i only get research points from their debris. Shouldn't there be some advanced tech i couldn't get otherwise? Or can you only get the new, shiny things from endgame crisis ships?
I am pretty lategame (year 2500+) and i've progressed through most of the tech tree i think... maybe i already have all there is to get?

Well... if you're in that point already, I doubt the FEs have a more superior tech than you.

Fallen Empires use Tier V technology, along a few of the +5% upgrades to lasers, shields, hull hit points, etc. The +5% upgrades can't be reverse engineered and if you're 2500 years into the game I would assume you already have Tier V tech.

From what I can tell, late game starts at 2300, so by then you should probably be Tier IV, then the end game crisis and Fallen Empires are ready for a challenging fight. Once you get to get Tier V tech, neither of them should be a problem for you.

Yeah, if you have tier 5 shields and armor, and tachyon sensors and lasers, then you pretty much have what they have.

sadly, my machine consciousness crisis is somewhat.. underwhelming. there is no fleet, no fights. it just takes planets and all the other AI civs don't even lift a finger. i am mostly sitting here, watching the map turn red. because i don't want to loose any more ground armies due to bugs.
