Did the original CK also have this kind of amazing "licensed" music? (although I'm aware that there's not a lot of music preserved from that age).
I can't speak for anyone else, but back in the day I specifically ordered Joculatores Upsaliensis' "Woods, Women, and Wine" (The CD Falalalan and many others came from) since I liked the music.
I have it burned to my hard drive, and still listen to it periodically. It will forever be a part of my life.
Falalan was not that bad. If it had been included in a wide variety of music then it would have been fine. The only reason people don't have a similar level of hatred for music of later games is that you don't notice as much when CK2 music, for instance, is repeating over and over, it's easier for that music to just fade into the background as you focus on the games.
I actually rather like Falalan, and I don't think it is fair to it to act like it is some curse that you sadistically inflict on someone.
This topic reminds me of the music in Imperialism II. I don't know if anyone played that, but the soundtrack for that was really great period music. But perhaps modern players won't like Baroque music?
