One thing I would like in CK2 would be uncertainty about the information I have. Thus, it would be good if some courtiers and vassals could make a plot to embarass a rival by letting me think that they plot, for example, to murder my child. Dependding of the skill and relations of the spymaster and the ruler, it would appear either as a true plot or as the fake one, in which some could enter or not, and it could bring to some odd situations. For this to work, a degree of certainty for plot would be needed. I can think of several levels :
- Whisper : The plot would be blurred since you could link some people to it, but wouldn't know what the goal is.
- Rumor : The plot could be of a defined type, but you still couldn't know all the people involved.
- Unconfirmed Plot : You would know what it is, but as it would not be confirmed, you would have tyranny if you choose to act (much like a faction)
- Confirmed Plot : With this, you could arrest without penalty since you have a proof.
There could also be some importance degrees to a plot. If it is grave enought, you could even execute people for it. I can think to link it to the current sentences :
- Minor plot : You could arrest the person wihtout harm if confirmed, but not more (not even the oubliette). Plus, there could be some (defined by laws?) maximum time after which you would lose prestige or have tyranny if you hold him/her for too long.-
- Major plot : If someone support for example a plot to lower the CA or to kill someone (It seems to me that murder should be important!) : Prison without tyranny
- Treason : If someone create a plot to lower CA or to kill someone or support a high treason : Prison or execution without tyranny
- High treason : If someone tries to overthrow you or to kill you or your direct heir : Prison, execution or exile without tyranny (exile should be reworked so that it would be the current uncompromised vassals that have the holdings, not you)
I also think factions should turn into plots once a certain moment has passed (I mean if they are now strong enough to revolt, or just under the bar). Your vassals can talk freely of conspiration if no harm is done, but once they really plan to overthrow you, maybe it could become a prestext (or a reason) to take them down before their treason, since you would have sufficient proof that they mean it. I see factions as soem people who should ask you first, politely or not. If this fail, then it could lead to a civil war...
Or, and this is something I feel lack immensely, especially for the ERE, but also for other kingdoms since it was something possible, instead of triggering a civil war, why not a Coup? It could trigger a civil war, yes, but think of a king that everyone hates. His younger brother is so good on the contrary and almost all the court would take down the king. As expected, the king could flee his palace, but nothing would assure him that he would get enough vassals to succesfully win a civil war. If no one wants to help him, it would be a Coup. The would have been blood only in the capital, or not at all, and a new king would be in place. Even id they don't hate their liege, there could be ways of silencing the previous liege without killing him/her (like : "go in a convent, dear aunt, or else...")
edit : I added some plot degrees, since I just forgot to say them when I post...
