Failed to save for unknown reasons

Hi everyone,

Having a bit of trouble. Started playing from 792 AD (or whatever the earliest start date is) on Ironman mode and recently hit around 1008 AD. However, my game will no longer save stating "failed to save for unknown reasons". There's mention of possible incorrect use of characters in the file name (which it's not) or not enough room on my computer (which, again, nope).

I've been checking around on the net for solutions and the most likely reason for the problem may be memory. According to a couple of threads CK2 first saves the game to virtual memory then to the drive. I'm running on XP so I made sure paging file was enabled and increased the virtual memory use (to 30,000 to be precise) however I'm still hitting this snag.

Other saves are working and I can start new games, and the save I'm having having trouble with does load but... bah... really no point carrying on if I sink 200 years in then I can't save.

Anyone with any insight would be making my day, thanks

Were you saving to cloud? If so, any kind of drop-out between you and Steam will cause this message.

However yes, being on XP is a potential problem too. If you have 3gb or more of memory installed

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the reply. Would you believe it but... it worked! However, whilst I now can save my computer seems to be experiencing some major video glitches. Desktop and ingame!

Bit once an old woman swallowed a fly syndrome it seems.

I've included a screen shot of the strange graphical glitches occurring (no sea / no borders / terrain decals vanishing).

Also - I have 3.5 gig worth of ram, and I was saving locally.





Appears somehow my video driver has vanished... reinstalling it now. Will let you know how it goes/

I had the same problem a few days ago and switching to 3 gb worked for the game. I am however getting an occasional blue screen now which is probably related to this fix, and the message mentions nvidia dll.

Well... done a reinstall.

Cleaned wiped the comp.

And although this fix does allow me to save once again the graphics glitch has made it unplayable.

IF you still have your virtual memory so high, try reducing it again. 30K MB is far too high. let Windows handle it.
