"Failed to create a graphics device. Exiting."

I am getting this error when I attempt to start the game. I don't even get to the launch menu before this error occurs. Please look into it.

I updated DirectX. That's what fixed it for me, anyway.

ok i have the same problem , I have updated directx , my video card drivers, my cpu drivers, i have restarted my computer about 10 times, unplugged one of my (duel monitors ) monitors, wrote in the setting.txt adapter=1....all did not work.....getting little annoyed , anyone little help...oh i have also uninstalled and reinstalled both steam and hoi4.

What redeem code? From where? Do they mean the activation code on the game case?

Once you do that, the tech-support forum will magically appear.
