AAR Writers of the Week : Faeelin & FinnMcCool

Good Morning everyone, welcome again to the Writers of the week thread. This week I have chosen Faeelin, a writer who has been very active on this forum and has produced numerous AARs that so many have enjoyed. My favorite of his has to be his Modern Day Yankee in George Washingtons Army, you can find a link to that AAR in the LibrAARy thread, check it out. YOu can also find many of his other AARs in the LibrAARy also. Thanks very much Faeelin for helping make this forum so bountiful with creativity. I think you are a great writer and I would like to know more about you. Where you from, some life history, where are you going or trying to achieve, stuff like that. Thanks for being a part of the community mate.

Today we also look at a writer who has been with us since June of last year. FinnMcCool has his AAR going called the High Kings of Ireland. Finn if you would be so kind as to tell us more about yourself and what brought you to our great forum. Thanks for being here.

Everyone please take a moment to say hi and thanks to these two writers. Thanks to everyone for being a big part of this writers forum. Its not just a game in here, its a passion:)

I would like to thank the Academy....

Greetings all,

Thanks for the recognition of this little story - I hope to keep pace with the other exceptional AAR's here (particularly the Irish AAR's for which I have an obvious interest).

I am a wandering Irish man, having traversed the seas to Hawaii for 3 years, and now retraced half my route to Illinois (I am a researcher at the University). EUI got me hooked, it was easy to see the potential the game had, and visiting the EU forums helped put life into the game. When it became possible to play Ireland as an independant state I couldn't turn down the opportunity to rewrite history :D. Deaghaidh's EUI AAR was an inspiration for me to try my own hand at one, "The Earls of Kildare" - but unfortunately it died a death when EU II was released.

My second attempt at an Irish AAR is partly a response to my girlfriend being away (thereby allowing many a long weekend staring at a computer screen, scribbling notes, and referencing history books) and a desire 'to give it a go'. With an Illinois winter not far off, I can hopefully continue this to a successful conclusion, so at least one Irish AAR gets completed ;) .

Thanks for the support everyone,
Good luck all

Declan
aka FinnMcCool

Thanks Declan, you are not too far from me and I too dread the coming winter, ugh!

The only time I tried to play Ireland I was handily taken over and annexed by England within 20 years. I tried them again and was again taken out swiftly so i gave up on them.

By the way, dont stay in Illinois too long, I have heard you come down with a condition known as "FIB" if you are there too long:D

Two great selections Warspite.

Faeelin's Modern Day Yankee in George Washingtons Army is quite simply required reading for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure. To my knowledge his was the first to mix a modern day character into the historical context of the game. (The reason I'm sure of this is because I was working on a similar idea at the time, but abandoned it when Faeelin tackled the subject so well).

Faeelin is very articulate, knowledgable, and above all a solid member of the EU II world.

I have found FinnMcCool's Irish AAR to be extremely well written and very entertaining. He is a welcome addition to the Forum and I hope he continues to grace us with his well spun tales.

Congratulations to both of you on well deserved honours.

One of the advantages of having writers of the week is that it brings new writers to the reader’s attention. I missed FinnMcCool’s AAR but have just read it and it’s a great start for a first AAR.

I’ve enjoyed Faeelin’s AARs and as LD said his Modern Day Yankee in George Washington’s army is a must read. He’s continuing this level of writing with his current AAR. I’m feeling guilty since I haven’t posted to his ARR telling him how much I’m enjoyig it. :( ;)

Slacker! Get to it!

I've found that it's usually more enjoyable to write AARS over shorter periods (usually the more modern ones) for 2 reasons:

1) You can detail a person's life.

2) This is probably the larger reason. It's easier, for me at least, to get inside the head of a new england sailor than it is of a duke in medieval times. That's why the only aar I attempted in that time period (savoy wars) involved some body promptly taking over the duke, and the only other one involves an islamic nation.

Thank you for the award. I'm not sure I deserve it, because rewards usually imply that you've done something that was hard. To me, a person should be writing (an aar, an article, what have you) because they enjoy it, not because it's something they feel they should do. That's why I don't mind seeing some one cancel an aar; if they're not enjoying it, what's the point?

BTW, War: I'm 16, a junior in high school, and since I hope to go into the medical field, I'm currently taking A&P II for the college credits. I'm from a small town in the small state of NJ, which for those outside of America is located near the not-so-small city of New York. I'm currently at home thanks to a cold, and at this moment am writing an editorial.

I'm happy to say that I've read (I think) every AAR that Faeelin's written and have consistently found them well written, imaginative, and entertaining. His contribution to the collaborative AARs shouldn't be overlooked either.

It simply blows me away to read that he's 16. Makes me regret spending my later teenage years hanging out in the nearby park with a two-four and some dope....well...almost regret it. ;) :D

I, like Joe, have only just discovered FinnMcCool's AAR as a result of this and I must say that I look forward to reading more.

Cheers to you both. :)

Faaelin, congratulations! :)

Your tender age is deceiving us. Your writing is much more mature than your age would indicate. That is meant as a huge compliment. :)
I really enjoy writing with you in the Free Company, and I truly enjoyed your Modern Day Yankee AAR.

Finn McCool, I'm sorry that I have missed your work, but I'll catch up! Congratulations anyway! :)

Faeelin: I must join the chorus when I say your age is a great surprise to me. Your writing is far beyond anything I could have produced at your age. I have enjoyed very much working with you in the FC. While Modern Day Yankee escaped me, I have greatly enjoyed your Islamic AAR. Good work and you have a serious future as a writer if you decide to pursue it.

FinnMcCool: Your Irish AAR has also managed to slip under my radar. Though I suppose that being about as Irish looking as humanly possible, I should read it.:) Congrats to you both.

Warspite: FIB!?! I know all about FIB. You backward, country hicks up in cheeseland are just jealous:D GO BEARS!

I haven't read Finn's AAR, I must confess, but Faelin's AAR (starring the unlucky Abdul) is definitely worth the read. Keep up the good work!

COngratulations to you both on awards well deserved (despite what Faelin might say...;)) and it's nice to know that there's another youngster around here. Anyways, I would write more (just spent the morning reading Finns work) but must dash, so ciao and keep up the good writing.
