G'day mate - Ah, crap. I've been industrializing my Australian colonies a bit too long it seems. :D

Well, I've got two questions on my mind and I couldn't find the answer in the FAQ or by playing the game. The first one is: How the devil can I pull down factories (Except for editing savegame.. that's what I've been doing for the last week)? It just annoys me to have those inefficient ones with which I started with.. And the second: I read something about capitalists building your factories / railroads. This is only true for Revolutions, isn't it?

So, thanks for answering anyways! :)

And now off I go for just one more prison camp...

If you play Revolutions (which you apparently don't), there's button for eliminating factory. In pre-Revolution Vicky you must edit the save file to rid yourself of unwanted factories.

And the second: I read something about capitalists building your factories / railroads. This is only true for Revolutions, isn't it?

Correct.

just "close" them. some of them will get VERY profitable once you advance in tech (like small arms, artillery).

Yeah, plus there's no reason to lower your industrial score unnecessarily, right? Heck I take the factories from 'private enterprise' events in VIP most of the time, just because the more the merrier. Heck that seems to be what Prussia does. I gotta keep up! More factories, more!! One steel mill per POP! Let Mao's dream be realized!

If I find that I have factories given by event (either "state funding", private initiative) or a Capi builds one that I can't immediately fill, I close it *temporarily.* Once my Craftsmen or labourer POPs hit 40K in that state, I reopen it, but only if it produces a needed middle product (steel etc.), I can supply the materials myself or the end product has a high profit margin (i.e. lux clothes or furniture.)

I always manualy assign craftsmen and clerks. I rarely close or destroy factories since I know capitalists will insist on building their clipper shipyards and the umpteenth glass factory. Well, at least glass is a very sorely needed good.

OK so capitalists DO NOT build factories and rail roads in vanillia vik?

I've had a couple of rail roads pop up on private enterprise but never a factory!

(only played little nations though while i'm learning..)
