Is it better to build a new factory or expand an existing one. Expansion seems cheaper. Do factories become more productive at higher levels due to economies of scale? Why build more than 1 kind of each factory? (Assuming that it is secure from invasion)

Also, do capitalists only operate independently (build their own stuff) under lassez-faire?

Sorry, just got the game (long-time EU and HOI player) and have done a couple of trial runs with USA. Is there a guide like the Economic Domination Guide for EU2 for Vicky. I have read Memnon's manual.

Depends - if you're low on POPs in that state, and need the product (steel!!), you'd be better off with building a new one in another state (assuming you have a State capitalism/Planned economy party). Otherwise, expanding the factory is probably a better solution, and AFAIK 2 factories = 1 2nd level factory etc.

Capis operate under certain rules - they build based on demand on the world market. That's why they'll build bunch of glass/wine/liquor factories - they are necessary goods for most of the POP classes.

And for the third question -there's a How to get an economy running guide on VickyWiki. Don't know who wrote it though.

For production purposes there is no difference between a 2-level factory and two 1-level factories, as long as you can staff them. Crime fighting cost however, is based on number of factories, so that becomes slightly more expensive with the second option AFAIK.

Also, do capitalists only operate independently (build their own stuff) under lassez-faire?
In Revolutions capitalists can build under Laissez Faire, Interventionism and (theoretically at least) State Capitalism.
